H. Wayne Porter dies in California
Retired construction worker H. Wayne Porter, 66, Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of Augusta, died Saturday at a Huntington Beach hospital.
There was no service and the family suggests contributions to the donor’s favorite charity.
He was born to Fred and Sarah Porter Jan. 31, 1920 in Toronto.
Mr. Porter graduated from Augusta High School in 1937. He served in Germany during World War II as a member of Company I, 137th Infantry, 35th Division of Kansas.
He married Jean Guest in Little Rock, Ark., on Aug. 2, 1941. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Mattie Guest and an aunt, Ilene Ireland, both of Augusta.
Mrs. Porter’s home address is 21851 Newland Street, Space 228, Huntington Beach, Calif., 92646.

Hazel Baldwin died Saturday
Hazel Ellen Baldwin, 65, Oklahoma City, Okla., sister of Marjorie Thomas of Augusta, died Saturday at her home in Oklahoma City.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Bill Merritt Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Rev. Dwain Jones will officiate and burial will be in the Moore, Okla., cemetery.
She was born April 24,1921 in Newton to Joe and Gladys Miller Phillips.
She married John Robert “Bob” Baldwin Dec. 9, 1943. He survives.
She worked for the Sun Glass Installation Co. in Moore.
Other survivors include sons, Joe of Westminster, Colo., Kent of Chickasha, Okla., and Captain John Robert II of Travis Air Force Base in California; a brother, Wayne Phillips of McPherson; nine grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

Letha L. Meldrum died Thursday
Letha L. Meldrum, 80, Tucson, Ariz., sister of George Long of Augusta, died Thursday.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at the St. James Episcopal Church in Wichita.
Other survivors include her husband, E.A.; daughter, Beverly Sarver of Wichita; brothers, Harry Long of Bartlesville, Okla., Jim Long of Venita, Okla., Richard Long of Rose Hill, Guy Long of Wichita; sisters, Elizabeth Estep of Bartlesville, Okla., Gladys Carter of Wichita; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Nathan M. Lietzke died in Wichita
Nathan Michael Lietzke, 4 1/2-year-old son of Stephen and Janice Elaine Lietzke of Augusta, died yesterday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Father Thomas Stroot will officiate.
He was born June 28, 1982 in Wichita to Stephen and Janice Elaine Willing Lietzke.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Besides his parents, he leaves brothers, Matthew and Nicholas, of the home; grandparents, Mary Louise Willing and Don and Betty Lietzke, all of Augusta.
The Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Helen H. Corbin died yesterday
Helen Hart Corbin, 68, Route 1, wife of Stanley Corbin, died yesterday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home.

Admiral Murphy died in Virginia
Rear admiral John Damian Murphy, Arlington, Va., died Jan.
8 of a heart attack at an Arlington hospital.
His funeral mass was celebrated Jan. 12 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Arlington. Burial with military honors was at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington.
He was born in Perth, Kan., on Aug. 19, 1896. He enlisted as an apprentice seaman and advanced through the ranks to become a rear admiral before his retirement. He received a law degree from George Washington University Law School.
Admiral Murphy’s accomplishments include serving with the Judge Advocate General’s office; commanding officer on the USS ALCOR, a flagship in the Atlantic Fleet; commanded the Joint Army Navy units and Marine Corps Air Groups to recapture the Sulu Archipelago and as commander of the 7th Amphibious Force U.S. 7th Fleet under vice admiral Dan R. Barby.
Survivors include his wife, the former Dorothy Regina Mannion, formerly of Augusta; daughters, Joan Dorothy Vayo of Arlington, Honora Ann Winters of Midlothian, Va.; sons, John Murphy IV of McLean, Va., and Lt. Colonel Dennis M. Murphy of Montclair, Va.; brothers, James of Gallop, N.M., Frank of Houston, Texas, Michael of San Marino, Calif.; sisters, Hannah Ruth and Kathleen Shea of Wichta, and Margaret Shields of Richmond, Ind.; 15 grandchildren, and a cousin-in-law, Ruth Redding of Augusta.

Memorial rites
Memorial services for Billy Erl Barber, 56, 504 1/2 State Street, were Sunday at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
He died Jan. 15 at his home.
Survivors include brothers, Bob of Wichita, Jack of Potwin and Charles of Seoul, Korea, and a sister, Patsy Lou Prieba of Wichita.
