Former Douglass man dies in Ohio
Retired fanner Ralph Waldo Adams, 85, of Cambridge, Ohio, formerly of Douglass, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, at a hospital in Cambridge.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7, at the McCabe-High Prairie Cemetery of rural Douglass. Rev. Dan Ferguson will officiate.
Adams was born Jan. 22, 1902 in Sedan as a son of Perry and Leona Latell Adams.
His wife, Harriett, preceded him in death late last year. They were married Aug. 18, 1924 in Douglass.
He was a member of the Douglass First United Methodist Church.
Adams leaves a son, Warren G. Adams of Cambridge, Ohio; a sister, Frances Doss of Wellington, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

‘Deke’ Myers died in Haven
C.M. “Deke” Myers, 83, Burrton, formerly of Augusta, died Wednesday.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cantwell-Van Campen Mortuary in Haven. Rev. Brent Clayton will officiate. There will be graveside services at 2:45 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
He was Jan. 29, 1904 in Clement to Charles and Anna Mauer Myers.
He married Lorene McElhaney Sept. 19, 1931 in Augusta. She survives.
Mr. Myers worked in oil field production in the Augusta and Haven areas.
Other survivors include a daughter, Jenney Lynn Valdois and her husband, Leslie, of Haven; brothers, Paul Myers of Mount Hope and Earl Myers of Lincoln; a grandson, Dale Valdois of Phoenix, Ariz.

Graveside, rites for ‘Deke’ Myers are here Saturday
The family of C.M. “Deke” Myers, 83, of Haven will be at the Clovis Cash home, 1609 Highland Drive, following graveside service for Mr. Myers at 2:45 p.m. tomorrow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Cantwell-Van Campen Mortuary in Haven.
Mr. Myers died Wednesday in Haven where he and his wife, Lorene McElhaney Myers, lived for many years. They married Sept. 19, 1931 in Augusta. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Jenney Lynn Valdois and her husband, Leslie, of Haven; brothers, Paul Myers of Mount Hope and Earl Myers of Lincoln, and a grandson, Dale Valdois of Phoenix, Ariz.
Friends of the Myers’ family are invited to visit with them at the Cash home on Saturday.

James McConnell died in Wichita
James “Jim” McConnell, 68, Wichita, father of Sheila McCune of Augusta, died Saturday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita. Bob Meyer will officiate and burial will be in the Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
He was born May 28, 1919 in Ohio to James and Frances McConnell.
He married Viola Hines Kershner. She survives.
Mr. McConnell was a retired aircraft employee.
Other survivors include a stepson, Dale Kershner of Wichita; daughters; Sherri Butler, Jill Hames, both of Lewisville, Texas, Carol Baker of Madison, Wis., Nancy Harbutz of Wichita; mother, Frances Sewickley of Wichita; sister, Juanita Smoots of Paradise, Calif., and nine grandchildren.

Former resident dies in Tennessee
Marian Ruth DeFoe, 72, of Tullahoma, Tenn., who lived in Augusta in the 1930s and 1940s when her husband John worked at the White Eagle refinery, died Jan. 31.
She leaves two daughters, Patricia Ann Krause of Tullahoma and Dee Ellen Lawhun of Ohio; a sister, Elsie McCaffree of Wichita, and two grandchildren.
The DeFoes made their home in Euclid Street when they lived here, according to friends.
The Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home at Tullahoma was in charge of arrangements.

Augustan’s sister dies in Hutchinson
Josephine “Mick” Hollis, sister of Inez Paul of Augusta and cousin to three other women here, died Saturday, Feb. 7, in Hutchinson.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the First Congregational Church in Hutchinson.
In addition to her sister and cousins in this community, she leaves two sons, Mike of Ohio and Craig of California.
The cousins in this area are Irene McCaffree, Inger Pennington, and Vivian Wilson.
The Johnson & Johnson Funeral Home at Hutchinson is in charge of arrangements.
