Velmo S. Johnson died today at 76
Velmo S. Johnson, 76, 22 Angelina, died today at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Gaylen Burow will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
After the service, the family will receive friends at the Christ Lutheran Church in Augusta.
A memorial has been established with the Christ Lutheran Church.
He was born June 20, 1910, in Rose Hill to Kenton and Minnie Silknitter Johnson.
He married Emma L. Weber on Nov. 22, 1941, in Ramona. She survives.
Mr. Johnson was a consulting engineer and a former partner in
Transport Systems of Denton, Texas.
Other survivors include a sister, Vera Dennett of Augusta; nephew, Kent Johnson of Austin, Texas; great-nephew, Gregory Cox of Salida, Colo., and a great-great-nephew, Dorian Cox of Salida.
A brother, Vern, preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Wendolyn Kay Brown, 11-year-old daughter of Marilyn Brown of El Dorado will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
The fifth grader at Oil Hill Elementary School died Saturday.
Memorials have been established with the Oil Hill Elementary

Ron F. Jurging died in Wichita
Ron F. Jurging, 40, Route 2, died Wednesday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in El Dordo. Rev. Jim Spon will officiate and burial will be in the Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born June 25, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Clarence and Lucy Nichols Jurging.
He married Dec. 12, 1986 to Barbara Frampton in Maimi, Okla. She survives.
He was an electrical and instrumental superintentnednent at Texaco Refinery in El Dorado.
He was a member of the VFW in Minnesota where he lived until moving to rural Augusta about nine years ago.
Other survivors include a son, Brett Jurging of Leon; a daughter, Dawn Jurging of Leon; a stepson, Mark Frampton of Olathe; a stepdaughter, Paula Frampton of Olathe; a brother, Richard Jurging of Egan, Minn.; a sister, Marion David of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a half brother, C.O. “Jiggs” Jurging of Freemont, Neb.
Kirby Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.

Jessie E. Karr died in Wichita
Jessie E. Karr, 95, Wichita, sister of Mava Swaney of Augusta, died Sunday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Clearwater. Rev. Harry Betts will officiate and burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Oatville.
A memorial has been established with the church.
She was born Jan. 30.1892, in Isadora, Mo., to John Alexander and Etta Gertrude Van Dusan Brown.
She married Orville Albert Karr on May 20, 1914, in Wichita. He preceded her in death in 1964.e Other survivors include a daughter, Lola Mae True of Wichita; sister, Deva Morrison of Wichita; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The Webb Mortuary in Clearwater is in charge of arrangements.

Gordon Arnold died in Wichita
Gordon Arnold, 129 Main, died last night at St. Francis Regional Medcial Center in Wichita.
Services are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.

James Hammon Sr. died at 61 today
James Lellous Hammon Sr., 61, Route 4, died today at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Prairie Hills Baptist Church in rural Augusta. Rev. Doyle Mendenhall will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 29, 1925, in Couch, Mo., to Mansur Cleveland and Edna May Wheeler Hammon.
He married Pauline Garnett Evans on Oct. 1, 1946, in Wichita. She survives.
Mr. Hammon came to the Augusta area in 1977. He was a retired civil engineer with the U.S. government. He. was a
member of the Prairie Hill Baptist Church, the Sunflower Lodge and the Shrine.
Other survivors include sons, James Lellous Hammon Jr., and Daniel Lee Hammon, both of Wichita; daughters, Wanda Lee Meyer of Oklahoma City, Okla., Shirley Lorene Smith of Cassvil-le, Mo., Ella Mae Storrer of Augusta, Bobbie June Sprang of Olathe, Janice Sue Pope of Pratt and Garnett Eileen Dixon of Wichita; brothers, Bobby Joe Hammon and Calvin Warren Hammon, both of Wichta; sisters, Louise Baker of Kingman, Ariz., and Norma Jean Smith of Wichita; 24 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
