LLOYD SHAFFER ...died yesterday
Lloyd W. Shaffer died in Oklahoma
Lloyd W. Shaffer, 46, Tulsa, Okla., brother of Augusta police chief Steve Shaffer of Augusta, died yesterday in Tulsa.
His funeral wil be at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Old Mission Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. Rev. Bob Ely will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
He was born April 25, 1940 in Wichita to Raymond L. and Cleta M. Brook Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer was a law enforcement officer who began his career in 1966 as a Sedgwick County sheriff’s officer. Later he joined the Wichita Police Department and then the Augusta police department. Later, he became police chief in Owasso, Okla.
During his career, he was awarded three silver wreaths for meritorious service and was named Officer of the Year.
He received an associate degree in administration of justice from Wichita State University. He was a member of the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge 303 AF&AM, Wichita Consistory, Midian Shrine, Tulsa, Okla., Moose Lodge.
Mr. Shaffer served in the military for three years beginning in June of 1958. He was in the Green Berets, according to his brother, chief Shaffer.
Other survivors include his mother, Cleta M. Rollins of Topeka; father, Raymond L. Shaffer of Wichita; sisters, Linda R. Carter-man of Tulsa, and Debbie Rollins of Topeka; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. V.M. Brooks and Ella Shaffer, all of Wichita, and nephews, Steve and Kevin.
A memorial has been established with the Plane of Mercy Fund, in care of the Midian Shrine in Wichita.

Pauline Markley died yesterday
Pauline Mary Markley, 87, Route 2, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cumberland Community Church. Pastor Jack Tomman will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the church.
She was born March 25, 1900, in Butler County to Judson and Alice Maxwell
VanMiddlesworth.
She married John Markley April 10, 1921, in rural Augusta. He survives.
She was a member of the Cumberland Community Church.
Survivors include sons, Lowell of Augusta, John of Norwalk, Calif., and Jerry of Grand Rapids, Mich.; daughters, Alice Winzer of Augusta and Josephine Wimberly of El Dorado; a sister, Alma Major of Augusta; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Holdeman died in Winfield
Mildred E. Holdeman, 85, Winfield, died Wednesday at the Resthaven Nursing Home in Winfield.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the First United Methodist Church. There will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1901, in Chicago, I11., to Charles John and Laura Wimmerstedt Brown.
She married Alpha A. Holdeman on June 7, 1933. He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1968.
Mrs. Holdeman received a bachelor’s degree in education in 1926 from Baker University in Baldwin City. She began her teaching career in Omega where she taught high school business courses. She taught in several Kansas communities.
The Holdemans lived in Burrton for 20 years where they founded the State Bank of Burrton. She taught at Haven High School and retired in 1965.
They moved to Augusta in 1966 and in 1969, she moved to Winfield where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Women’s Methodist Society, the Hope Circle and Mitzpah Sunday school class. She was also affiliated with the William Newton Memorial Hospital auxiliary, Rosetti Circle and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
Survivors include two sons, Al Holdeman Jr. of Winfield, and John B. “Jack” Holdeman of Garden City; five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
A brother and a sister preceded her in death.
Miles Memorial Chapel in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.
