Melvin R. Martin dies at home
Lifelong Augusta resident Melvin Ray Martin, 73, 323 Broadway, died Sunday at his home.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta. Rev. Dan Ferguson of the Douglass Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in the Cumberland Cemetery.
He was born March 30, 1914, in Butler County to C.F. and Leora Baum Martin.
He married Florence May Wakefield on July 12, 1941, in Douglass. She survives.
Mr. Martin worked for Republic Supply Co. before his retirement in 1979. He served in the Air Force during World War II and was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Other survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Schloctermeier of Ellinwood; father, C.F. Martin of Augusta; sister, Mary Ann “Ruby” Groves of Haysville, three grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
A memorial has been established with toe Kansas Heart Association.

Velma F. Wampler died in Dodge City
Velma F. Wampler, 69, Dodge City, mother of Robert Wampler of Augusta, died Sunday at toe Humana Hospital in Dodge City.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Rev. W. Frank Morgan will officiate and burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Gray County to Edward Lee and Viola Imel Steele.
She married Robert H. Wampler on April 10, 1935 in Hutchinson. He preceded her in death Dec.15, 1971.
Other survivors include a daughter, Ann of Dodge City; brothers, Verl Steele of California, Oliver Steele of Dodge City, Ray Steele of Bella Vista, Ark.; sisters, Grace Courbot of Dodge City, Flora Smith of Riverside, Calif., Gertrude Wilson of Albuquerque, N.M., and a grandchild.

Accident claims Shannon Freeman
Shannon Kay Bishop Freeman, 25, Wichita, daughter of Karen Gray of Augusta, died Saturday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident north of Winfield.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Rev. Dennis Lorenz will officiate and burial will be in the Elk Falls, Kan. cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Ronald McDonald House in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 14, 1961, in Wichita to Rex and Karen Thurman Bishop.
Mrs. Freeman was a Wichita State University student.
Other survivors include sons, Ian, Zachary, daughters, Ryan, Chelsie, all at home; father, Rex Bishop of Denver, Colo.; brother, Doug Bishop of Kansas City, Mo., Todd Bishop of Wichita; sister, Kelly Adair of Roanoke, Texas.

Eleanor Dennett died at AMCI
Eleanor Margarete Dennett,
77, Route 3, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Jehovahs Witness Kingdom Hall. Earl J. Moody will officiate and burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
She was born July 27, 1909, in Potwin to William Jesse and Bessie Wallace Sharon.
She married Leo G. Dennett on May 31, 1931, in Wichita. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1976.
Mrs. Dennett came to Butler County in 1924. She was a Jehovah Witness.
Survivors include sons, Robert Lee Dennett, Clarence Leroy Dennett and Marion Fay Dennett, all of Augusta; a daughter, Helen Louise Scobee of Augusta; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Rites were Thursday for James Goetz
Funeral services for James P. “Jim” Goetz, 31, Kingman, formerly of Augusta, was pronounced dead April 20 at his home.
His funeral was April 23 at St. Peters Church in Willowdale. Rev. David O’Leary officiated and burial was the church cemetery.
He was born Dec. 23, 1955, in Kingman to Vincent and Marieda Simon Goetz.
Mr. Goetz graduated from high school in Zenda. He spent most of his life in Kingman County except for three years when he lived in Augusta and worked through the carpenters’ union. While in Augusta, he was a member of the St. James Church. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 2662. He worked at Klaver Construction in Kingman.
Survivors include his parents, Mr.and Mrs. Goetz of Willowdale; brothers, Donald Goetz of Medicine Lodge, Jerry Goetz of Augusta and Ralph Goetz of Hays; sisters, Charlette Knotts of Augusta, Louise Regan of Salina, Joyce Linebarger, Sandy Gadber-ry and Susan Goetz, all of Hutchinson, Denise Goetz of Hays, and a twin sister, Jane Allen of Norwich; six nieces and four nephews.
A sister, Marie Ann Goetz, preceded him in death in 1952, and a nephew, Joshua Regan, preceded him in death in 1978.
The Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman was in charge of arrangements.
