Funeral Service For ‘Tony’ Berndsen Tomorrow
Anton E. “Tony” Berndsen, 71, Route 2, died Saturday, May 15, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, at St. James Catholic Church. Father David Cushing will officiate and burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
A rosary will be said at 7:30 o'clock tonight at St. James Church.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Nov. 17, 1910 in Andale to Joseph and Theresa Horsch Berndsen.
He married Catherine Betzer Aug. 10, 1939 in Augusta. She survives.
He moved from Andale to this area in 1939. He was a retired farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Other survivors include two sons, David Berndsen and Timothy Berndsen, both of Augusta; two daughters, Dianne Coiner and Debbie Weaver, both of Wichita; three brothers, Willie Berndsen, Omaha, Neb., Manuel Berndsen, Santa Susannah, Calif., and Eugene Berndsen, Wichita; four sisters, Edna Rogers, Naomi Bauer, Irene Casey and Agnes West, all of Wichita, and 12 grandchildren.

Dr. Clay’s Father Dies
Fred Ellis Clay, 70, Logansville, Ga., father of Dr. James Clay of Augusta, died there Monday.
His service was set for 2:30 p.m. today at the Tom Wages Funeral Home in Logansville.
Other survivors include his wife, Kate Clay of the home; a daughter, Barbara Carter of Logansville, and three grandchildren.

Belford Rites Here Thursday
A funeral service for Dean Elden Belford, 29, 117 Columbia, will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate at the service and burial will be in the Indianola Cemetery of rural Benton.
Belford died of injuries suffered in an early Sunday morning motorcycle accident on the Haverhill Road southeast of Augusta.
He was bom Nov. 8, 1952 in El Dorado as a son of Alfred and Alice L. White Belford. His parents survive.
He married the former Sara Lockridge at Newkirk, Okla., on July 7, 1980.
In addition to his wife and parents, he leaves a daughter, Amy Michele, of the home; and two brothers, Dale Belford, stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany and Wilfred Belford of Augusta.
He was employed as an opoerator for the L.A. Knebler asphalt plant and served with the army in Vietnam.

Sheriff Probing Cause Of Death For Rural Man
A 32-year-old rural Augusta man was found dead in his rental home south of U.S. 54 on To-Wa-Ka-Ni Road around 10 a.m. today.
Butler County Sheriff Dave Williams identified the man as Max Rich.
Captain Larry Cody said an autopsy would be performed on the man early this afternoon at the Old Mission Mortuary in Wichita.
Rich, who had lived in rural Augusta five or six years, reportedly had not shown up at his job for the last two evenings. His parents who live in Wichita asked a friend to check on him. The friend found the body.
