Virginia Burnett died in Wichita
Virginia Sue Burnett, 71, Douglass, died yesterday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Douglass United Methodist Church. Rev. Dan Ferguson will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the Wichita Diabetes Association.
She was born April, 7, 1916 in Flora, Neb., to Charles Taylor and Gertrude Marshall Sprigg.
She married Silas F. Burnett Sr. on Jan. 8, 1944 in Marshall, Mo. He survives.
Mrs. Burnett was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church, the Richland EHU and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Other survivors include sons, Chuck Deer of Neosho, Mo., George Robert Deer of Sibley, Mo., and Silas F.“Frank” Burnett Jr. Chehalis, Wash.; daughters, Virigina Black of Valley Center and Bonnie Albert of Mesa, Ariz. a brother, Bill Sprigg of Gravois Mills, Mo.; a sister, Gertrude Mackler of Ottawa, Nancy Smith of San Diego, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Edna E. Hammer died in Wichita
Edna E. Hammer, 79, Augusta, died yesterday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Blankinship Cemetery in Rosalia. Frank Miller will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
She was born March 2,1908, in Latham, to Mr. and Mrs. John T. Jackson.
She married Lelo Hammer Dec. 3, 1925, in Eureka. He preceded her in death Jan. 17, 1976.
Mrs. Hammer moved to Augusta in 1940 from the Rosalia area. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include a son, B.L. Hammer of El Dorado; sisters, Fern Hurt of El Dorado Springs, Mo., Iva Perry of McCune; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Loren S. Seal died in Oklahoma
Loren Scott Seal, brother of Homer E. Seal of Douglass, died Saturday at a hospital in Stillwell, Okla.
He was a retired aircraft worker.
Mr. Seal was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Woods Seal.
Besides his brother, he leaves a daughter, Sondra Morton of Stillwell, and a son, Robert Seal of Wichita.
Ramel M. Hance died yesterday
Ramel Marie Hance, 68, Augusta, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex Long Term Care facility.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in rural Stockton.
She was born on April 7,1919, in Kansas City, Mo., to George H. and Sophia E. Liebenau Sims.
She married Donald L. Hance. He survives.
Other survivors include sisters, Lorene M. Barber of Catherine and Maxine P. Lawrence of Augusta.
A brother, Chester C. Sims, preceded her in death.

Former student dies in Arizona
Michael L. “Mike” Surber, 15, formerly of Augusta, died over the weekend in Phoenix, Ariz.
Funeral arrangements were pending this morning.
Surber, who relocated to Arizona last year with family, would have been a freshman this year at Augusta High School.

Alta F. Houser died at 91 Sunday
Alta F. Houser, 91, Douglass, died Sunday in a Winfield hospital.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the United Methodist Church in Douglass. Rev. Dan Ferguson will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Douglass City Library.
She was born Sept. 11,1895, in Decatur, I11., to Samuel Augustus and Carrie Emma Della Weigel Houser.
She was a farmer.
Survivors include great-nephews, Loren Cox, Curtis Cox, both of Douglass and great-nieces, Diana Cox of Douglass, and Charlene Cox of Wichita, Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Davis M. Baxter dies at age 100
Route 4, died Saturday at the Augusta Medical Complex Lor Term Care Facility.
Graveside services were at today at the Beggs Cemetery in Beggs, Okla. Rev. Tom Dove of the Presston Baptist Church in Presston, Okla., will officiate.
He was born June 26, 1886, in Beggs, Okla., to William M. and Ellen Hilton Baxter.
He married Jennie Mae Rogers in Beggs. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Baxter was a retired rancher and a Baptist.
Survivors include grandson, Ronald E. Baxter of Augusta, and three great-grandchildren,
Michael, David and Terry Baxter.
He was preceded in death by a son, Delmar W. Baxter; brothers, Oscar and George, and sisters, Tilda and Rose.
