Former Augustan dies in California
Quentin Paul Watkins, 67, of Palm Springs, Calif., commercial fisherman, formerly of Augusta, died Tuesday, Aug. 11.
His funeral services were this week in Connecticut where his ashes were scattered in the ocean.
Watkins was born Oct. 26,
1919 to Albert and Marie Watkins in Augusta.
Before he left Augusta in 1980, Watkins was an employee of Knebler Construction Co.
Watkins is survived by two sons; one daughter; nephews, John P. Watkins, Jr., of Augusta, Dick Reed, of Leon.

Inez W. Hoben died Saturday
Inez W. Hoben, 81, of Wichita, aunt of Joelene Fanning of Augusta, died Saturday.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Byrd Snodgrass Funeral Home in Wichita. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Hoben was born Aug. 22, 1905 in Conway Springs.
She was a member of the Wichita Lioness Club, Republican Women's Association and was active in fundraising for the Hillside Christian Church.
Marie B. Sanders funeral Wednesday
Marie Blanche Sanders, 83, of Augusta, housekeeper, died Sunday, Aug. 16 at Augusta Medical Complex, Inc.
Her graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison will officiate and Dunsford Funeral Home has the arrangements.
Sanders was born Nov. 16, 1903 to Charles and Augusta Neitzke Murphy in Butler County.
On Feb. 8, 1943, she and Dr. Charles E. Ard were married in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in 1946. She married Charles Leslie Sanders June 4, 1949, in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in 1972.
Her survivors include: brothers, Wilbur Murphy, of Augusta, Richard Murphy of Winfield; sister, Violet Dieckman, of Augusta; nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Fund.

Theola B. Howell died yesterday
Theola Bernice (Courtney) Howell, 63, of Augusta, homemaker, died Monday, Aug. 17 at Augusta Medical Complex Inc.
Her graveside service will be 3 p.m. tomorrow at Garrison Cemetery. Dunsford Funeral Home has the arrangements.
Howell was born Nov. 2, 1923 to Sim C. and Dolly Cordell Courtney in Wichita.
Her survivors include: sons, Johnnie L. Howell, James J. Howell, David Howell, all of Augusta, Dell Howell, of Goltry, Okla.; daughters, Johniece Bell, of Boles, Ark., Janell Hopkins, of Jet, Okla.; brother, Bruce Courtney, of Derby; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Billy Mitchell Howell; one grandson, Johnie Robert Howell.

John F. Reeser died in Colorado
John F. “Rocky” Reeser, 65, of Colorado Springs, brother of Doris Cooley of Douglass, died Thursday, Aug. 13.
His funeral service has been Evergreen Funeral Home in Colorado Springs had the arrangements.
Reeser was a retired industrial
engineer.
In addition to his sister in Douglass, survivors include: sons, Joe, John, both of Colorado Springs; daughter, Judy Munson, Colorado Springs; sisters, Imogene Frost, Esther Adams, both of Pico Rivera, Calif.; five grandchildren.

Elmer Deiter funeral Saturday
Elmer Deiter, 76, of Hunter, father of Jane Burns of Augusta, died Wednesday, Aug. 19.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Methodist Church in Hunter. Burial will be in Greenwood Union Cemetery.
Deiter was born Sept. 9, 1911 on a farm near Hunter to Lorenz W. and Anna M. Vanleewen Deiter.
On May 13, 1931, he and Doris M. Brown were married in Osborne, Kan.
In addition to his daughter here, survivors include: wife, Doris; daughters, Clara Clark of Overland Park, Leah Hewitt of Beloit; brothers, Charles, Adolph, Walter, all of Hunter; sisters, Minnie Stussy of Hunter, Alma Minear of Luray, Kan.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the Hunter Methodist Church building fund and the Hunter Alumni Association.

Marcia Arline (Shannon) Gilliland, 57, of Houston, formerly of Augusta, died yesterday, Aug. 19 at Park Plaza Hospital in Houston.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dunsford Chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Gilliland was born Sept. 26, 1929 to Gordon L. and Inez Ferguson Shannon in Augusta.
Gilliland was retired from Residential Real Estate in Wichita and a member of the Methodist Church.
Her survivors include: sons,
Dr. Mark Gilliland and Joe Gilliland, both of Houston; sisters, Donna Crowley of Midland, Texas, Gloria Burtiss of Denton, Texas; father, G.L. “Bud” Shannon of Augusta; four grandchildren.
