Friday, September 18, 1987
Richard Bunyard died today
Richard “Bill” Bunyard, 28, of Abilene, a former Leon resident, son of Jack and Melba Bunyard of rural Leon, died today.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Leon United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Leon Cemetery and Rev. Keith Mace will officiate. Carlson Funeral Home has the arrangements.
Bunyard was born Dec. 7, 1958 to Jack and Melba Landon Bunyard in Wichita.
Bunyard was a soil conservationist with the Department of Agriculture. He was a 1977 graduate of Bluestem High School and a 1985 graduate of Fort Hays State College. He was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church and the Fort Hays Alumni Association.
In addition to his parents, survivors include: sister, Debbie Ervin of El Dorado; grandmother, Marcella Landon of Wichita; two nieces.
A memorial has been established with Leon United Methodist Church.

Carolyn Elliott funeral Saturday
Carolyn Elliott, 43, Augusta, died Tuesday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberts Funeral Home in Blackwell, Okla. Burial will be in Braman Cemetery.
Elliott was born Oct. 4, 1944 to Fred and Viva Thomas in Okemah, Okla.
Elliott was a professional horse trainer and a member of the Womens Professional Rodeo Association.
Her survivors include: parents, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Thomas; son, Don Elliott of Tega Cay, S.C.; sister, Sherry Lorg of Blackwell; brother, Joe Thomas of El Dorado.

Walter J. Jackson died in Mississippi
Walter James Jackson, 84, brother of Ernest Jackson of Augusta, died Aug. 24 at Anderson Hospital in Meridian, Miss.
Burial was in Meridian.
Jackson was born July 25, 1903 to George Nelson and Lillie Belle Quick Jackson in Latham.
In addition to his brother here, survivors include: sisters, Daisy Cody of St. John, Kan., Frances Gunter of West Plains, Mo., Tina Moser of Valley Center, Louise Law of Los Lunas, N.M.; many nieces and nephews.
Jackson was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Edmund Schmidt died Saturday
Edmund Schmidt, 77, Wichita, brother of John of Douglass, died Saturday, Sept. 19.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. tomorrow at Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita. BuriaLwill.be In Lakeview Mausoleum. Pastor Donald Steelberg and Dr. Dan Bonner will officiate. Lakeview Funeral Home has the arrangements.
Schmidt was born in Kansas, Sept. 25, 1909 to Daniel W. and Caroline Schmidt.
He was a member of the Lions Club and the Mennonite Church.
In addition to his brother in Douglass, survivors include: wife, Mabel; son, Jim of Rose Hill, Marvin of Derby, Alfred of Eureka, Willard of Andover; sisters, Luella Peters, Hilda Speck, both of Wichita, Ethel Walker of Newton, Esther Doyle of Phoenix; two grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church.

Russell Mason died in Oklahoma
Russell Mason, 74, of Tahlequah, Okla., father of Marilyn Johnson of Leon, died Monday, Sept. 14.
His service has been held. Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah has the arrangements.
In addition to his daughter in Leon, survivors include: wife, Evelyn; son, John of Wichita; seven grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Tahlequah Veterans Council.
