Graveside service for Merlin S. Keely
Merlin S. Keely, 56, of Wichita, died Saturday, Sept. 26, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Keely was assistant principal at Southeast High School in Wichita.
A graveside service for Keely will be conducted at the Douglass Cemetery 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon (Sept. 29). Rev. Charlie Harrison of the Seltzer Springs United Methodist Church will officiate.
Keely was born July 9, 1931 in Winfield to John and Nannie Hall Keely.
On Nov. 23, 1952, he and the former Thelma Bandergriff were united in marriage at Douglass. She preceded him in death in 1983.
Keely was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Kansas National Guard Association, Kansas-National Education Association, the National Association of Assistant School Principals and the Seltzer Springs United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Keely and Rachelle Buckley, both of Wichita; two brothers, Marvin Keely of Tucson, Ariz., and Gene Keely of Pecos, Texas, and one grandson.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society and the Seltzer Springs United Methodist Church have been suggested.
The Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home of Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Anna Heschmeyer died yesterday
Anna Josephine Heschmeyer, 97, of Augusta, retired farmer, pioneer of the Goddard community, died yesterday at Augusta Medical Complex.
A rosary will be said 7 p.m. tomorrow at Wulf s Mortuary in Garden Plain. Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Garden Plain. Burial will be in Garden Plain Cemetery.
Heschmeyer was born in 1890 to Peter and Emma Lorson in Pratt County.
On May 10, 1908, she and John Heschmeyer were married in the Cheney area. He preceded her in death in 1943.
Her survivors include: daughters, Beth (Meloy) Giaretta, Ann Heschmeyer; son, Clarence, all of Augusta; one granddaughter.

Nellie J. Suhler funeral tomorrow
Nellie Jane Suhler, 87, homemaker, of Lyons, sister of Ruth Cofield of Augusta, died Sunday, Sept. 27.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. tomorrow at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery and Rev. John Bland will officiate.
Suhler was born Oct. 19, 1899 to Anna and August Lauby in Medicine Lodge.
On Sept. 17, 1919, she and Oscar Suhler were married in Medicine Lodge. He preceded her in death.
In addition to her sister here, survivors include: son, Kenneth C. of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Wilma Jean LeBund of Shawnee, Okla., Pauline Brown of Rogers, Ark.; brother, John Lauby of Jacksonville, Fla.;
18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Palmer Matthews died Tuesday
Palmer D. Matthews, 52, of Eureka, stepfather of Jerry Knotts of Augusta, died Tuesday, Sept. 29.
His graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Cemetery. Pastor Harry Sharp will officiate and Campbell Funeral Home in Eureka has the arrangements.
Matthews was born March 2, 1935 to Claude and Margaret Dale Matthews in Fredonia.
On Sept. 29, 1968, he and Bonnie Knotts were married in Eureka.
Matthews was a retired truck driver and a member of Disabled American Veterans and VFW Post 2712.
In addition to his stepson here, survivors include: stepson, David Knotts of Wichita; stepdaughter, Leigh Cristiano of Webster, Texas; brother, Gerald of Bacliff, Texas; sister, Margaret Giacavoni of Stockton; eight grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Epilepsy Foundation of America.

John M. Hammans died yesterday
John M. Hammans, 74, of Sapulpa, Okla., a former Douglass and Arkansas City resident, retired Farmland Industries oil field pumper, died yesterday, Oct. 1.
His funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lee and Walnut Church of Christ in Sapulpa. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Douglass City Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home in Sapulpa has the arrangements.
His survivors include: wife, Ethel; sons, Gail A. of Sapulpa, John D. of Douglass, Paul W. of Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Evalee Christmas of Chanute; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
