Monday, November 2, 1987
Clarence Fredrick died on Oct. 29
Clarence M. Fredrick, 70, of Augusta, died Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita.
His graveside service was at 2 o’clock this afternoon in the Kuster Cemetery. Rev. Delmer Becker officiated.
Fredrick was born Aug. 5, 1917 in Deer Creek, Okla.
On Aug. 13, 1953, he and Dona Fay Weyl were married in Rogers, Ark. She preceded him in death May 2, 1987.
Fredrick was a retired carpenter and a member of Carpenters Union 210 and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean conflict.
Survivors include: son, Robert H. Johnson of Augusta; daughters, Sharon Harrison of Neosho, Mo., Diana Bush of Hutchinson, Kathlene McElroy of Augusta; brothers, Art of Blackwell, Okla., Carl of Sunnyvale, Calif.; sister, Rose Dice of Blackwell, Okla; five grandchildren.
Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta was in charge of arrangments.

Robert Newman died Oct. 30
Robert O. Newman, 66, of Douglass, died Friday, Oct. 30.
His funeral service was 2 p.m. today at Douglass Christian Church. Burial was in Douglass Cemetery and Keith Shepherd officiated. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home had the arrangements.
Newman was born May 6, 1921 to Virgil and Ora Wares Newman in Olpe, Kan.
On May 20, 1943, he and Leota Cooley were married in Hobbs, N.M.
Newman was a retired Cessna Aircraft Co. employee. He was a deacon at the Douglass Christian Church and a member of the American Legion and Douglass Masonic Lodge.
His survivors include: wife, Leota; daughters, Linda Reynolds of Douglass, Diana Valentine of Potwin; brothers, Gene of Lyons; sister, Mary Martin of Russell; four grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the HCA Wesley Medical Center oncology unit.

Lewis Rowland died this morning
Lewis R. Rowland, 76, of Winfield, former Augusta resident, died this morning at his home after a long illness.
His graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Douglass Cemetery. Miles Memorial Chapel in Winfield has the arrangments.
Rowland was born April 26, 1911 to Melvin T. and Clara Kruse Rowland on a farm near Newton.
He began farming as a young man and worked as a carpenter for many years. He moved to Augusta in 1935 and served in the United States Calvary in World War II.
On June 27, 1967, he and Ila R. Pontious were married in Winfield. They moved to Atlanta in 1969 and then to Winfield in 1974.
His survivors include: wife, Ila, stepsons, James Lee of Shawnee, John Lee of Great Bend; brothers, Melvin of Augusta, Herbert of Moline, Robert of Fort Myers, Fla.; five step-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Home Health Care Services at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.

Michelle Feder died Monday
Michelle Lynn Feder, infant daughter of Mitchell and Cherie Bryant Feder of Wichita, grandchild of Fred and Diana Bryant of Augusta, died Monday, Nov.2.
The graveside service was held this morning at Lakeview Memorial Garden Cemetery in Wichita.
In addition to the maternal grandparents here, survivors include: paternal grandparents, Marvin and Bobbi Abbot of Wichita; paternal great-grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Lawson of Altamont; maternal great-grandparents, Ed and Roberta Boring of Independence; maternal great-grandmother, Stella Bryant of Elk City.

Kenneth Prichard funeral Monday
Kenneth Eugene Prichard, 21, of Douglass, volunteer firefighter, died Wednesday, Nov. 4 of injuries received while fighting a pasture fire.
His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Douglass. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery and Rev. Jonnie R. Alter will officiate.
Prichard was born Dec. 19, 1965 to Delmar and Patricia French Prichard in Wichita. He lived in Douglass all his life.
His survivors include: parents, Delmar and Patricia; brothers, Mike, Randy, both of Douglass, Greg of Joshua, Texas; sisters, Cindy Rose, Sheila Smith, both of Rock, Sandy Baum, Annette Spence, Melinda Prichard, all of Douglass, Liz Cummings of Titusville, Fla., Pam Barnes of Ark City; grandparents, Pearl and Gilford Prichard of Hutchinson.
A memorial has been established with Butler County Fire District 8 Firemen Education Fund.

Augustan’s father died Friday
Luther C. Phillips, 91, retired farmer, of Newton, father of Betty Dennett of Augusta, died Friday, Nov. 6.
His funeral service was 2 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery and Rev. Phil Chastain officiated.
Phillips was born Oct. 16, 1896
to Rufus and Idabelle Woodward
Phillips in Walton, Kan.
On June 7, 1921, he and Gladys Merrell were married in Newton. She preceded him in death May 6, 1987.
In addition to his daughter here, survivors include: sons, Robert Ellis Sr. of Peabody, James Kenneth of El Dorado; daughters, Barbara Jane Harms of Hoisisngton, Lucille Wyss of Florence, Beverly Collins of El Dorado, Dorothy Koehn of Newton; 28 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
Memorials have been established with First United Methodist Church and the Friendly Acres Home for the Aged.
