Davis dies at 89, funeral tomorrow
L.V. Davis, 89, of Augusta, died Saturday, Dec. 26, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Burial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Winfield.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church here. Rev. Harold Kieler will officiate.
Davis was born Oct. 6, 1898, to James and Eva Dyer Davis in Burden. He grew up in the Burden-Cambridge area of northeastern Cowley County.
On Aug. 18, 1922, he married Hazel Beck in Wichita. She preceded him in death on July 18, 1978.
Davis received his bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College in Winfield. He later received his master’s degree from the University of Kansas.
Davis was a former science teacher in the Topeka and Augusta school systems. He also owned and operated Cascade Cottages in Estes Park, Colo., a place which served as a vacation spot for many Augustans.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Augusta.
Davis leaves two daughters, Mary Lee Johnson of Joliet, Ill., Grace George of Wichita; niece, Mary Frances Berner of Moorestown, N.J.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Methodist church organ fund in Augusta.

Memorial service tomorrow for Davis
A memorial service for L.V. Davis, 89, of Augusta, who died Saturday, Dec. 26, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita, will begin at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in the First United Methodist Church, Sixth & School.
A graveside service for Davis was conducted this afternoon at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Winfield.
The Swisher-Taylor-Morris Funeral Home at Winfield was in charge of arrangements.

Lowell S. Urie rites tomorrow
Lowell S. Urie, 80, Wichita, stepfather of Judy Bryan of Augusta, died Sunday, Dec. 27, at St. Joseph Hospital.
His funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Lakeview Funeral Home in Wichita. Burial will follow in Lakeview cemetery.
He was born Aug. 16, 1907 in Buffalo, Mo., to James C. and Hester Ann Conn Urie.
Urie, a retired oil field driller, is survived by his wife, June; son, James of Houston; stepson, Danny Thomas of Lake View Terrace, Calif.; brother, Armon of Sedan; sister, Faye Adams of Chanute; seven grandchildren.

Augustan’s mother dies at hospital
Retired kindergarten teacher Pearl L. Hansen, 79, mother of Dixie L. Eastham of Augusta, died Monday, Dec. 28, at the Halstead Hospital.
A memorial service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church in Halstead 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4.
Memorials to the Halstead Public Library have been suggested.
Mrs. Hansen was born Sept. 3, 1908 in Valley Center.
She married Edgar M. Hansen Feb. 18, 1938 at Valley Center.
He survives.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Halstead where she had made her home for the past 30 years. Mrs. Hansen taught at the Halstead Grade School.
In addition to her husband and daughter, she leaves a brother, Ora Briggs of Wichita, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The Kaufman Funeral Home at Halstead is in charge of arrangements.
Wichita resident dies Tuesday
Edith Pearl Henderson, 80, of Wichita, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
A memorial service for Henderson is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 2 at Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cememtery.
She was born Oct. 18, 1907, to Bala and Sarah Steel Romine in Longdale, Okla.
On Oct. 10, 1931, she married Theodore Henderson in Wichita.
He preceded her in death in 1971.
Henderson, who worked 47 years for Bell Telephone, is survived by brothers, Walter Romine of Vallejo, Calif., Ben Romine of Waynesville, Mo.; sisters, Leta Harrel of Midwest, Okla., Gladys Carter of Guymon, Okla.,
La Verne Myrick of Harlingen, Tex.; nieces and nephews.
