Augustan’s mother dies in Oklahoma
Virgie Jones, 83, Elk City, Okla., mother of Clyde Medkief of Augusta, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, at a hospital.
Her funeral service was this morning at the Martin Funeral Home chapel in Elk City and burial was this afternoon in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Wellington, Texas. Dr. Ed Saucier, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Elk City, officiated.
She was born Nov. 25, 1904 at Stevens, Ark., as a daughter of John and Hattie Poteet Glasgow. The family relocated to Carter, Okla., in 1916 and to Wellington, Texas, in 1918 following the death of Mrs. Glasgow.
Her first husband was Clyde A. Medkief.
She married Bob Jones June 13, 1947 at Wellington and together they managed motels at Elk City and Vinita in the 1940s and 1950s. He preceded her in death in 1974.
She relocated to Elk City in 1984.
In addition to her son here, she leaves two brothers, Elbert Glasgow of Amarillo, Texas, and Hardy Glasgow of Elk City; a half-brother, J.N. Glasgow of Wellington, Texas, and a stepbrother, Ohmer Barnes of Altus, Okla., two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret Ehrlich dies at hospital
Margaret L. Ehrlich, 64, Wichita, died Thursday, Jan. 14, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral service will be 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, Jan. 18, at Central Baptist Church of rural Augusta. Rev. Gus Kubish will officiate and burial will be in the Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita.
She was born Jan. 7, 1924 in Wichita as a daughter of Lowell and Ethyl Morgan McConnell.
Mrs. Ehrlich was a member of the Central Baptist Church. She also taught piano and organ.
Survivors include her husband Jake of the home; a son, Mark of Edmond, Okla.; a daughter, Janet Quillan of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Charles of Wichita and Marvin of Athens, Ga., and two grandchildren.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested. The Old Mission Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

Clara M. Rock funeral today
Clara Maxine Rock, 67, of Derby, homemaker, sister of Ruth MacKay of Douglass, died Thursday, Jan. 14.
Her funeral service was today at Mulvane United Methodist Church. Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane had the arrangements.
In addition to her sister in Douglass, survivors include: husband, Wendell; son, Max of Trenton, N.J.; daughters, Evelyn Stilson of Renton, Wash., Carolyn Brewer of Wichita, Marilyn of Fort Myers, Fla., Elaine Miller of Derby; brothers, Lloyd and Joe Hum-bolt, both of Mulvane; six grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Mulvane United Methodist Church.

Jack A. Burns died Thursday
Jack A. Burns, 57, of Las Vegas, Nev., former resident of El Dorado, self-employed contractor, brother of Jim of Augusta, died Thursday, Jan. 14.
His funeral service was 2 p.m. today and burial was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado had the arrangements.
Burns was born July 11, 1930 to Clarence and Charlotte Counter Bums in Wichita.
On Jan. 8, 1949, he and Joan Covert were married in Eureka.
In addition to his brother here, survivors include: wife, Joan; sons, Doug, Ted, both of Wichita; J. Scott of Las Vegas; daughters, Pam Armstrong of Austin, Texas, Jill Stanley of Las Vegas; brother, Gary of El Dorado; sister, Judy Shelton of Andover; eight grandchildren.

Leon resident died Saturday
Freda M. Sphar, 75, of Leon, homemaker, died Saturday.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. tomorrow at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado. Burial will be in Leon Cemetery.
Sphar was born March 27, 1912 to Alva and Mary William Black in Chaney, Okla.
On Oct.a 8, 1928, she married Sam Wheat. He preceded her in death in 1975. On May 7, 1981, she and George Sphar were married in Newkirk, Okla.
Her survivors include: husband, George L.; daughter, Ramona Parsons of ElDorado; stepson, George R. of Leon; stepdaughters, Dorothy Flattery, Phyllis Kingsley, both of Leon, Luella Finch of Athens, Ill.; brother, Alva Black of Kiowa; sisters, May Lanforman, Ione Robinson, both of Kiowa, Charlotte Waren of Medicine lodge; two grandchildren; numerous
step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials have been established with Leon Baptist Church and Leon Senior Citizens Group.
