Mother Dies In El Dorado
Ruth G. Smith, 87, El Dorado, mother of Eileen Murrey of Augusta, died Sunday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
Her service was at 2 p.m. today at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Rev. William Longman officiated and burial was in Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
She was bom June 23, 1895 in Elliot, Ill., to Meredith and Katie Pfoff Thornton.
She married William Benjamin Smith Sept. 16, 1916 in Lawrenceville, Ill. He preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1963.
She was a retired cab dispatcher and a member of the Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Latham and the El Dorado Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Other survivors include a son, Dick Smith of El Dorado; another daughter, Helen Smith Shelton of El Dorado; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Carlson’s Funeral Home in El Dorado was in charge of arrangements.
James Duncan Dies At 62
James Duncan, 62, Wichita, brother of Don Duncan of Leon, died Sunday.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kechi Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
He was bom July 11, 1919 to John Jay and Zella Billings Duncan.
He was a retired carpenter.
Other survivors include daughters, Sharon Spies and Connie Dillon, both of Wichita; his mother, Zella Duncan, Wichita and sisters Ruth Davidson and Mary Jane Andrews, both of Wichita.
Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
Mother Dies In Wichita
Virgia A. Cook, 67, Wichita, mother of Jane Lewis of Augusta, died July 2 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Her service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Downing and Lahey Mortuary in Wichita. Pastor David Troyer will officiate and burial will be in the Singer Cemetery in Freeport, Kan.
A memorial has been established with the oncology department at Wesley Medical Center.
She was bom March 27, 1915 in Freeport to Earnest and Daisy Brook Cooper.
She was a retired carport motel owner.
Survivors include a brother, Allan Cooper of Kansas City, Mo.
Brother Dies
Paul DaMetz, 72, Sumner, Wash., brother of Robert DaMetz, died Friday.
The Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh, Neb., is in charge of arrangements.
Other survivors include his wife, Ellen DaMetz; a son, Russell DaMetz of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Paula Kinebriel of Sumner; another brother, Ralph DaMetz of Salem, Ore., and a sister, Gladys Brunner of Topeka.

Russel McKinney Dies In Wichita
Russel McKinney, 73, Mulvane, father of Roger McKinney of Augusta, died last night at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mulvane Cemetery. Rev. Harold Stien-bach will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Mulvane United Methodist Church.
He was bom Dec. 21, 1908 in Howard to T.J. and Fannie Ayres McKinney.
He married Willma Brown Aug. 27, 1969 in Wichita. She survives.
He was a retired tool designer. He was a member of the Mulvane Methodist Church.
Other surivors include a daughter, Barbara Jean Childress of Basehor; two brothers, W.A. McKinney and Parks McKinney, both of Wichita; a sister, Leta McClellan of Oswego and three grandchildren.
The Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane is in charge of arrangements.
Mabel Wheeler Dies At 58
Mabel Cathryn Clark Wheeler, 58, Baltimore, Md., sister of John Clark of Augusta, died July 8 in Baltimore.
A memorial has been established with the Saint Joseph Hospital Hospice and Home Care Program in Towson, Md., 21204.
A memorial service will be in the hospital chapel Sunday, July 11 at 7 p.m.
She was bom in Augusta July 5, 1925.
She was a nurse at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital several years before moving to Baltimore to nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Prior to her illness, she was a floor supervisor at Saint Joseph Hospital in Towson, Md. There she spent much time helping get the hospital hospice started.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Wheeler; a son, Clark; a daughter, Cathy; a sister, Vera Clark, Emporia; a brother, Paul Clark, Greybull, Wyo., and a grandson, Brian.
