Holcomb resident dies after accident
Holcomb resident Jimmie Ray Wallace, 19, IBP plant employee, and grandson of Joe and Louella Wallace of Augusta died Wednesday, March, 2 at St. Catherines Hospital in Garden City as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 7, in Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Donald Carter officiating the services. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
He was born March 16 1968 to Joe and Pat Wallace in Lamar, Mo. The 1987 high school graduate of Holcomb was a member of the Battery A, First Batallion, 161st Field Artillery Unit of Garden City.
Survivors are parents. Joe and Pat Wallace of Holcomb; brothers, Michael of Holcomb, John of Lansing; sisters, Tammy Wallace of Holcomb, Serinda Wallace of Norfolk, Va.; grandparents, Matilda Wheeler of Holcomb, Harold Hoffman of Deming, N.M. and step-grandmother, Catherine Hoffman.
A memorial has been established with the Jimmie Ray Wallace Memorial Fund, c/o Garnand Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements were made by Garnand Funeral Home.

Former Augustan died on March 3
Former Augustan Dutch Thomas died March 3 in Harriman, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel, children Bobbie Mee, and Vickie Heidel, all of Harriman; Charles Thomas of Augusta; sister Maxine Rollins of Augusta; brothers, Carl and Bert Thomas of Augusta, Earnest of California and Delbert of New Jersey.

Emna L. Purvis funeral was today
Emna L. Purvis, 91, Douglass, died Friday, March 4, at the Douglass Medicalodge.
Her funeral was this morning at the First Christian Church in Douglass and burial was in the Douglass cemetery.
She was born June 8, 1896 in Amarillo, Texas, to Charles G. and Clara Green Landis.
Mrs. Purvis was married three times during her life.
Her first husband was Hope Taylor. He preceded her in death in 1936.
Her second husband was Orville Elder. He died in 1949.
James Purvis was her third husband and he died in 1957.
She was a teacher at the Bodark School and a Sunday School teacher at the Douglass First Christian Church where she was a member.
Survivors include two sons, J.R. “Richard” Taylor, and James L. Taylor, two daughters, Ruth Wiseman and Marian Taylor, all of Douglass, two sisters, Viola Younger of Big Springs, Texas, and Gertrude Cantrell of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the church, the Douglass Library and the senior citizens center have been suggested.
The Miles Mortuary at Winfield was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial service for Florence Davis
Homemaker Florence L. “Terrill” Davis, 72, 522 Osage Street, died Sunday, March 6, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Harold Kieler, minister of the Augusta First United Methodist Church, officiating. Cremation has been completed.
She was born Jan. 22, 1916 in Vera, Okla.
On Aug. 11, 1934, she married William W. Davis in a ceremony at Fort Smith, Ark. He survives
Mrs. Davis also leaves a son, Michael Davis of Lake Charles, La., and two grandchildren, Mark and Rachel Davis, also of Lake Charles.
Memorials to the First United Methodist Church have been suggested.

Augustan’s brother dies in Nevada
Everett Loveland, 79, Pahrump, Nev., brother of Dorothy Sloan of Augusta, died Feb. 29 at the Nathan Aldeson Hospice Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
A memorial service was held March 8.
He was born Sept. 30, 1909 in Gas City, Kan., to Frank and Fanny Burgan Loveland.
On Nov. 26, 1932, he and the former Opal Cook of Eureka were united in marriage.
Loveland lived here in the late 1960s and the early 1970s. He retired from the Kansas State Highway Department.
In addition to his wife of the home, he leaves two daughters, Eulah Walls and Wilma Westmoreland, both of Pahrump; another sister, Frankie Tarrant of El Dorado, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in this area.
Mrs. Loveland’s address is Opal Loveland, Star Route Box 42509, Pahrump, Nev., 89041.
