Augustan’s brother died at Wesley
Thomas Gerald “Jerry” Ferguson, 73, of El Dorado, brother of Augustan J.B. “Ben” Ferguson, died Sunday, March 20, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (March 22) at the Carlson Colonial chapel in El Dorado. Burial will follow at Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado.
He was born Jan. 12, 1915 in Burden, to Thomas and Elsie Skinner Ferguson.
On Oct. 22, 1944, he married Lucille Drury, in Liberty, Mo. She survives.
Ferguson served his country during World War II in the army, seeing duty in the European and Pacific theaters of war.
He retired from the Gas Service Co. in 1980. He was the company construction and maintenance superintendent.
He attended the United Methodist Church. He held memberships in the Clinton Masonic Lodge 233 in Burden, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Campers and Hikers Association, the Butler County Sun Chasers and the Air Capital Chapter of Mature Outlook.
Survivors include his wife, his brother, five nieces and three nephews.
Memorials have been suggested to the Bradford Memorial Library, El Dorado.

John G. Kipers dies at hospital
John G. Kipers, 67, Wichita, died Saturday at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral was today at the Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home in Wichita. Cremation followed the service conducted by Rev. Frank McKinley of Westview Southern Baptist Church.
Kipers was born in Augusta May 15, 1920 to John and Florence Kipers.
He leaves a wife, son, three daughters, two brothers, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Former Augustan dies in Texas
Betty Alley Eckels, 66, a former Augustan, died Sunday, March 13, at her home in DeSota, Texas.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, March 16, in Dallas, and Saturday, March 19, at the First United Methodist Church, Augusta.
She was born April 14, 1921, to Ural Coen "Pat” Alley and Sylvia Mae Gloshen. In December, 1921, her parents moved to Augusta.
On Sept. 11, 1946, she married Pat Eckels of Dallas, in Vienna, Austria.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jack of Houston and Robert of Dallas; a sister, Letty Jackson of Augusta; a niece, Jane Heise of Augusta; and two nephews, Bill Knebler of Augusta and Donald Jackson of Arvada, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Mary Alley Knebler.
Memorials have been suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Augusta.

Norman T. McClain died at hospital
Norman Trevanian McClain, 71, died Monday, March 21, at Augusta Medical Complex. He was a retired owned of McClain Tank Truck Services and a contract pumper.
His funeral will be 2 p.m Thursday, March 24, at the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado.
From 1960 to his 1984 retirement, he lived in Ardmore, Okla., working for Reading & Bates Off Shore Drilling Co.
He was born Nov. 4, 1916 to Walter and Dorenda Ann McClain in Wichita.
He married Barbara L. Hunter July 22, 1966 in Eureka. She preceded him in death.
Survivors are a son, Jerald D. of Goddard; a step-son, Dr. M. Kent Sidel, Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Lulu Tarrant, Wichita, and a grandson, Mongomery T. McClain, Goddard.

Grandson dies in St. Louis
James D. Pyatt, 26, De Soto, Mo., died March 16 at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. He was the grandson of Clyde and Dena Swafford of Augusta.
Pyatt was born in Mexico, Mo., Dec. 16, 1961 to Clifford and Ruth Pyatt, Festus, Mo., they survive.
He was a mechanic for the Missouri National Guard.
Survivors include three brothers, Donald of Paragould, Ark., Gary of St. Louis and Dennis of a U.S. Marine base in California; a sister, Karen Lawrence of Little Rock, Ark.; grandparents Dorothy Pyatt of Hermann, Mo., and Clyde and Dena Swafford of Augusta.
He was buried Sunday afternoon in Mount Olive Cemetery, rural De Soto. The Missouri National Guard conducted a military service at graveside.
Rose Hill man died in Fowler
Paul Chance, 98, who lived the first 94 years of his life in Rose Hill, died Monday, March 21, in Fowler, in the Fowler Nursing Home.
His funeral will be at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon (March 23) at the Friends Church, Rose Hill. Rev. Galen Hinshaw and Rev. Charles Neifert and Rev. Marvin Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery, Rose Hill.
He was born Nov. 17, 1889, to Stephan B. and Anna Jane Davis in Rose Hill.
On May 14, 1919, he married Viola C. Dagel in Wichita. She preceded him in death on June 19, 1986.
A retired farmer and dairyman, he lived all his life in Rose Hill until his sons moved him to Fowler in 1983.
He was a member of the Friends Church in Rose Hill.
Survivors include two sons, Voyle and Austin, both of Fowler; a daughter, Leola Clinger, Aurora, Colo.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been suggested to the Friends Church. Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade, is in charge of arrangements.
