Augustan’s sister died in California
Edith C. Ballard, 71, sister of Violet Thornton of Augusta, died April 8 at her home in Concord, Calif. Funeral services were Monday, April 11, at Oakmont Memorial Park Chapel, Lafayette, Calif.
She was born Dec. 6, 1916 to Farmer C. And Esther (Covil) Force.
She married Fred Ballard on Sept. 27, 1937 in Salina. He survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Esther Ann Souders, Tucumcari, New Mexico; a sister, Marguerite Quintana, of Emporia; two brothers, Ivan Force, of Mesa, Ariz., and Dale Force of Rock Springs, Wyo.; three grandchildrens and several nieces and nephews.

Marshall C. Gruver dies in Oklahoma
Marshall C. “Mike” Gruver, 60, Blackwell, Okla., died Friday, April 15.
A funeral service was held for Gruver in Oklahoma this morning at the Freewill Baptist Church in Blackwell and a graveside service was conducted at the Elmwood Cemetery here this afternoon. Rev. Frank Miller of Augusta officiated at the graveside service.
Gruver, manager of the Cardinal Bowling Lanes in Blackwell, was born Dec. 15, 1927 at Madison as a son of Joseph and Nettie
Gruver. He grew up in the Cassoday area.
He married the former Dorothy J. Nance Aug. 31, 1957 in Miami, Okla. She survives.
Gruver served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1956.
Other survivors include son Curtis Gruver of Blackwell, stepson Kim McKenzie of Leon; a daughter, Kristie Valasek of Wichita; brothers Jack, Glenn, and Tommy, all of El Dorado, and a sister, Hazel Baker, also of El Dorado.
Memorials to the youth bowling association have been suggested. The Roberts Funeral Home at Blackwell is in charge of arrangements.

Dena E. Winters dies in Wichita
Dena E. Winters, 87, rural Augusta, died Thurdsay, April 14, at the Catholic Care Center in Wichita.
Her funeral service will be at the Mission Chapel Mausoleum at 10 a.m. tomorrow, April 16, with Rev. Burl Allison Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Mission Chapel Mausoleum.
She was born Aug. 16, 1900, to Alfred H. Bellows and Myrtle Richmond in Conway Springs.
On Aug. 17, 1937, she married D.A. Winters in California. A homemaker, she belonged to the Methodist church.
Survivors include a stepson, Dwight Winters of Wichita, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Ellen E. Harding dies at hospital
Ellen Elizabeth Harding, 71, of Augusta, died Thursday, April 14, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel here with Rev. Jon Grissom officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 14, 1917, to Olaf W. Hendershott and Nora Talley, in Tescott.
She married Clifford J. Harding in 1933. He preceded her in death.
She was a retired ward clerk at Augusta Medical Complex and a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Chuck and John, both of Augusta; a daughter, Judie Gill of Augusta; a sister, Betty Nida, Fort Morgan, Colo.; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rilla Epperson.

Mrs. Fowler dies
Mrs. Wally (Jean) Fowler, formerly of Augusta, died last night at Tucson, Ariz. She was the mother of Kris Bell and Joe Fowler of Augusta and a sister-in-law of Julia Fowler, also of Augusta.

Ruth E. White funeral Wednesday
Ruth E. White, 91, Augusta, died Friday, April 15, at Walnut Valley Manor nursing home.
A graveside service will be held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Goddard 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, with Rev. Don Scott officiating.
She was born Oct. 2, 1896 in Peabody to Willis S. and Lucy DuBoise McClure.
Memorials to Walnut Valley Manor have been suggested.
She leaves a son, Bruce White of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Patricia Cessna of Wichita; two brothers, Neil McClure of Bath, N.D., and Lloyd McClure of Holiday Park, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Quiring-Old Mission Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
