Monday, May 9, 1988
Stepfather died Saturday
Ernest A. Berry, 89, of Newton, owner of Berry Petroleum Drillers & Producers, died Saturday. May 7. He was the stepfather of Janet Myers of Augusta.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton with burial to follow at 2 p.m. in the Mission Center Cemetery at Topeka.
Survivors include: wife Marion; sons, J. David of Wichita and Gerald of Topeka; daughter, Bernice Hanson of Lindsborg; stepsons, Max Schroeder of Boulder, Colo., and Jay Schroeder of Danville, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with First United Presbyterian Church and the American Cancer Society.

Edward R. Beshirs died at hospital
Edward Ray Beshirs, 72, Route 4, died Monday, May 9, at Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. tomorrow, May 11, in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasent Valley Cemetery at Bentley.
A retired inspector at Boeing Aircraft, he was born Sept. 29, 1915, to Charles Ray Beshirs and Nora Mae Howell in Knowles, Okla.
He married Eleanor Mae Cook, Aug. 30, 1968, in Augusta. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, Donald of Wichita, Wayne of Mountaindale, N.Y., Keith of Dodge City and Darwin of Lahom, Okla.; stepsons, Albert L. Cook of Haysville, Richard L. Cook of Park City and Raymond L. Cook of Winfield; daughters, Lola Hicks of El Dorado and Gail Van Arsldale of Abilene; stepdaughters Judith Ann Saultz of Bonner Springs and Janie Standifer of Wichita; brothers Paul of Wichita and Dale of Germany; sisters Thelma Sells of Waco, Texas, and Pauline Fletcher of Bentley; 31 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Edwin R. King died on May 5
Edwin R. King, 66, of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Augusta, died Thursday, May 5. Before retirement, he lived and worked as a plumber in Augusta.
His funeral service was Monday in Louisiana.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; sons, Ed, Ernie, Erwin and Earl, all of Baton Rouge; a brother Oma of Wichita; sisters Buerna Pierce of Escondido, Calif., and Margie Payne of Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial service
A memorial service for Delmer Paul will be held at 8 o’clock this evening at his residence, 431 School Street. Friends are welcome.

Lora M. Beeson died in Wichita
Lora Maxine Beeson, 63, of Dougalss, died Wednesday, May 11, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Private services have been scheduled for Beeson, a retired restaurant owner.
She was born Aug. 6, 1924, to Albert and Effie Mashurn Cardinal in Grenola, Okla.
She married Kenneth L. Beeson, Aug. 3, 1954. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Condon of Wichita and Bradley Beeson of Douglass; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Condon of Wichita; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

Augustan’s sister dies at hospital
Lottie E. Farthing, 74, of El Dorado, sister of Hattie Harding from Augusta, died today, May 12, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Carlson Colonial Chapel in El Dorado. Burial will follow at Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
She was born March 16, 1914 to Bruce and Birdie Hedworth in Nashville, Mo.
She married Clarence Leslie Farthing, Aug. 30, 1930, in Pittsburg. They moved to El Dorado and owned and operated Farthing Market.
Mrs. Farthington attended the Southern Baptist Church.
Other survivors include daughters, Virginia Moore of El Dorado, Phyllis O’Brien of Eufaula, Okla., and Wilma Green of Goldendale, Wash.; another sister, Hazel Sewell of Spring-field, Mo.; seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday and Saturday at Carlson Funeral Home.
