W.W. McMullen dies in Texas
W.W. "Bud” McMullen, formerly of Augusta, died this week m Rockwell, Texas.
A graveside service was held today for McMullen in Beaumont, Texas.
He leaves his wife, Phil, a resident of the Rockwell Nursing Center and a daughter, Mrs. Tracy Lowry of Tacoma, Wash.

Retired carpenter’s funeral tomorrow
Garland F. Reeves, 80, a retired Augusta carpenter, died Sunday, May 15.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Downing & Lahey Mortuary in Wichita. Burial will follow in Andover Cemetery.
Surviving family members include: wife, Wilma; son, Marvin O. of Augusta; brother, Claude of Wichita.
Memorial contributions can be made to research for Alzheimer’s & Similar Diseases.
The Downing & Lahey Mortuary, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.
Wichita plumber died Saturday
Delbert D. Smith, 58, owner of Westside Plumbing in Wichita and brother of Ruby Henderson from Augusta, died Saturday, May 14, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: wife, Carmen, of the home; daughters, Marsha Magill, Deanna Smith, both of Wichita, Darla Stanley of Columbia, S.C.; brothers, Dewey of Wichita, Arthur of Peabody, Darrell of Haysville, and nine grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
The Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, Wichita, is in charge of the arrangements.
Augustan’s brother dies in Winfield
Rev. Martin Helmer, 74, Winfield, brother of Dan Helmer of Augusta, died Friday, May 13.
A memorial service was at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield.
Other survivors include: wife, Millie; sons, Martin of Tescott, the Rev. David of Blackwell, Okla., the Rev. Paul, Luther, both of Winfield, Theodore of Wichita; daughter, Ruth Stuewe of St. Charles, Ill.; brothers, Eddie of Burns, Harry of Hillsboro; sisters, Martha Yauk of Hillsboro, Mary McDaniel of El Dorado, Edith Rempel of Hillsboro; 20 grandchildren.
Memorial has been established with St. John’s College Alumni Association.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield, was in charge or arrangements.
Grandfather died today in Nebraska
Oliver Johnson, 85, of Stromsburg, Neb., grandfather of Gini McClure of Augusta, died this morning, May 16, in Stromsburg.
Services are pending.
Survivors include his wife Myrtle of the home; a son, Derald of Dodge City; and a daughter, Darlene Lytle, former of Augusta and now of Beaumont, Texas.

Ernest D. Jessup, 73, of Junction City and brother of Ila Mead of Rose Hill, died Thursday, May 12.
A service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fort Riley Main Post Chapel.
Jessup, a retired U.S. Army colonel, is survived by his wife, Anna M.; sons, Ernest D. Jr. of Garland, Texas, John R. of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Margaret Obenshaim of Noel, Mo., Helen Rosson of Mechanicsville, Va.; mother, Iva Bell of Andover; sister, Marie Bacon of Wichita; six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
The Mass-Hinitt-Alexander Funeral Home of Junction City is in charge of arrangements.

Ex- Mobil worker dies in Missouri
Former Augustan Marvin E. Richey, 72, of Warrensburg, Mo., brother of Mildred Flannery of Augusta, died Sunday, May 15. A memorial service was held yesterday in Warrensburg.
Richey, a graduate of Augusta High School, was a retired Mobil refinery employee. He also worked for General Motors prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Marvin, Jr., David and Roger; daughters, Katherine Sims, Merlene Richey and Michelle Fobic; brother, Raymond; 12 grandchildren. Richey was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence.
James Cowan’s service is Friday
James Cowan, 30, of Wichita, grandson of Ruey Powell of Augusta, died Tuesday, May 17.
His service is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. at DeVorss-Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary.
Cowan, a carpenter, is survived by his father, Arnold Cowan of Novenger, Mo.; mother, Linda Warrington of Wichita; brother, Randy Powell of Baring, Mo.; sister, Sherry DeJesus of Wichita; paternal grandmother, Mabel Cowan of Green Castle, Mo.
DeVorss-Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of funeral arrangements.
