Funeral tomorrow for insuranceman
Augusta insuranceman Ronald D. Baugher, 48, died Saturday, May 28, at the St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita where he had been a patient for the past seven weeks.
His funeral service will be 11 o'clock tomorrow, June 1, at First Baptist Church, State & Kelly, with Rev. George Goudie of First Southern Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta from 7 until 8 o’clock this evening, May 31.
Baugher, a charter member of the Augusta Optimist Club, was owner-operator of the Baugher Insurance Agency in Augusta.
He was born Sept. 18, 1939 in Eldorado, Ill., as a son of John and Alliece Baugher.
In 1949, the family relocated to Wichita. Ron attended Robinson Junior High School and East High School. Following high school graduation, he joined the Army Reserves and later attended Wichita State University.
He was baptized into the Methodist faith at Dellrose Methodist Church in Wichita.
In 1958, Baugher married childhood sweetheart Shirley Reeves during a Sept. 6 wedding ceremony in Miami, Okla. She survives.
He worked for nine years for the postal service in Wichita prior to beginning his insurance career. Baugher was a representative for Shelter Insurance for 15 years — the past 14 1/2 years in Augusta. He had earned many sales awards from the insurance company.
During his Optimist Club membership, Baugher served as a director, secretary, treasurer, and
president of the service organization. He was chairman of the club’s Drum & Bugle Corps program for several years.
He was also a member of Augusta Elks Lodge 1462, the Augusta Chamber of Commerce, the Wichita and National Association of Life Underwriters.
Two months ago, Baugher was diagnosed as having acute myelocytic leukemia during a routine physical examination.
In addition to his wife, Baugher leaves a daughter, Annette Powers of Wichita; two sons, David L. Baugher and Rick Baugher of Augusta; a granddaughter, Sara Baugher of Augusta; a brother, Alan Baugher of Canadian, Texas; and his mother, Alliece Baugher.
Memorials to the Augusta High School scholarship fund can be made at either local bank.
