'Jim’ Taylor dies at hospital
James “Jim” Taylor, 84, of Douglass, died Friday, May 27, at Augusta Medical Complex.
A memorial service for Taylor was scheduled for 2 p.m. today, May 31, at the First Christian Church in Douglass. Burial was to follow in Douglass Cemetery.
James Lee Taylor was born Nov. 27, 1903, to Hope and Katy Butts Taylor in Douglass. On Jan. 4, 1926, he married Julia Eckel in Winfield. She survives of the home.
In 1938, Taylor purchased the L.D. Brandt Grain Elevator which continues to operate as the Douglass Grain Company. During his many years in the grain and cattle business, he operated one of the first commercial feedlots in Kansas. He also was a former partner in the Taylor Grain Company of El Dorado.
Taylor was a member of the Douglass Lodge 151, Wichita Consistory and Midian Shrine. He also was a member of the First Christian Church in Douglass.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Hope Taylor and Bill Taylor, both of Douglass; daughters, Betsy Wright and Ann Frakes, both of Douglass, Dorothy Goldenstein of Augusta, Kate Haaga of El Dorado, Connie Althouse of Longmont, Colo.; brother, Richard “Dick” Taylor of Douglass; sisters, Marian Taylor of Augusta, Ruth Wiseman of Douglass; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the First Christian Church in Douglass. Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Augustan’s brother dies Saturday
Benny James Murrow, 35, of Belle Plaine, died Saturday, May 28. He was the brother of William Murrow of Augusta.
His memorial service was 2 p.m. today at Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane.
Murrow, a Mountain Bell Telephone Co. assistant manager, is survived by his father, Cleo of Belle Plaine; brothers, Gary of Haysville, Robert of Rose Hill.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Senter-Smith Mortuary, Mulvane.

Rural Augustan died Monday
Myrtle Louise Roush, 77, of rural Augusta, died Monday, May 30.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Andover Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison will officiate.
She was born March 14, 1911, to Lewis and Mary Dice Holtz in Neosho Falls. On April 14, 1946, she married Albert Roush in Independence. He survives of the home.
Roush, a homemaker, is survived by a son, Darrel of Augusta; sister, Martha Jenkins of Kansas City, Mo.; one grandchild.

Anne L. Gratzer died Saturday
Anne L. Gratzer, of Augusta, died Saturday, May 28, at Augusta Medical Complex.
There will be a private service for Gratzer. The family has asked for no flowers to be sent.
She was born to Earl and Anna Perrish LeSuer near Queen City, Texas.
Survivors include: son, Gary Wolcott of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Earl LeSuer of Atascadero, Calif.; sisters, Caroline Brown of Augusta, Irene Doughty of Howard, Lanola Louthian of St. Joseph, Mo., Marie Myers of Anza, Calif.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

Louisiana girl dies in accident
Erica Michelle King, 16, of Baton Rouge, La., granddaughter of Floyd Banfill of Douglass, died Sunday, May 22, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Her memorial service was May 25.
King, a sophomore at Belaire High School in Baton Rouge, was a former resident of Wichita.
She is survived by her parents, Ernest and Cynthia of the home; brother, Brian of Baton Rouge; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Marshall of Wichita, Norma King of Baton Rouge.
Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge was in charge of the service.

Memorial service slated for Monday
Mary Etta Lamb, 70, of Augusta, died Tuesday, May 31, at HCA Wesley Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Her memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Jon Grissom of the First Christian Church of Augusta will officiate.
She was born July 6, 1917, to William and Edith Pietz Churchill in Park Rapids, Minn.
On Aug. 19, 1936, she married Jesse “Jack” Lamb in Park Rapids. He survives.
Lamb, a retired cook in the Augusta public school system and a member of the First Christian Church, is survived by a son, Rodney of Downey, Calif.; daughter Sharon Phillips of Augusta; brothers, Harold of Shelton, Wash., Bill of Park Rapids, Minn., Delbert, Vernon and Robert, all of The Dalles, Ore.; sisters, Mildred Williams of Augusta, Alice Bernard of Park Rapids, Minn., Lila Buchner of The Dalles, Ore., Frances Julian of Truman, Minn.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
One brother, Don Churchill, preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First Christian Church of Augusta.
