Dean Burns funeral slated for Thursday
Dean Clinton Burns, 79, of Augusta, died Sunday, June 5, at Augusta Medical Complex.
A funeral service for Burns will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church of Augusta. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Jon Grissom will officiate.
He was born May 10, 1909, to DeWitt C. and Rose P. Pulver Burns in Douglass.
Burns married Hazel Thomas in El Dorado in 1934. She survives of the home.
Burns was a State Farm insurance agent. He also was a member of the First Christian Church and Augusta Elks Lodge 1462.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Marie Ann White of Jacksonville, Fla., Judith Bums McCrea and Deanna Lynn Mertes, both of Wichita; brother Earl of Douglass; four grandchildren. One brother, Loren, preceded him in death.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church of Augusta. Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Vern E. Willett dies Friday
Vern Elvin Willett, 77, of Leon, died Friday, June 3.
His service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.
Willett was a retired owner and operator of Vern's Sporting Goods and Willett Real Estate Agency.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine; sons, Wayne E. of El Dorado, Scotty J. of Overland Park; daughter, Karilyn Doll of Chase; sisters, Ruby Jacobs of Plains, Eva Wyler of Wellington; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Home Health Care Agency.
Cessna employee’s service is today
Randall Wade Cox, 60, of Wichita, died Friday, June 3.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Worley Funeral Home in Grove, Okla. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. Saturday at Broadway Mortuary in Wichita.
Cox, a Cessna Aircraft Co. truck operator, is survived by his wife, Jennett; sons, Loren and Curtis, both of Douglass; daughters, Joyce Houser, Diana Cox, both of Douglass, Margaret Maggard of Wichita, Charlene Chandler of Andover; stepson, Andrew Nez of Wichita; brothers, Silvester of Disney, Okla., Carmen of Buffalo, Mo.; sister, Melba Slater of Fair Grove, Mo.; half brother, Manford of Grove; half sisters, Arvon Barton, Alfie Barker, both of Grove, Vontreba Butemier of Michigan, Lula Hicks of Zena, Okla.; two grandchildren.
Service Wednesday for Leon woman
Lois M. Highbarger, 54, of Leon, died Sunday, June 5, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Her memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Leon Christian Church. Burial will follow in Latham Cemetery.
Highbarger, a waitress and homemaker, is survived by a son, Kevin Hayworth of Lyons; daughters, Janet Woodard of Augusta, Connie Holmes of Leon, Dana Highbarger of the home, Donna Graber of Sylvia; mother, Frances Kirby of Latham, brothers, Gene of Oklahoma City, Stan of Wichita; nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial contributions can be left with Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
