Augustan’s mother died Tuesday
Jo Evelyn Transue, 63, of Coffeyville, mother of Linda Driskill of Augusta, died Tuesday, July 19.
Her memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Edgewood Chapel in Coffeyville.
Transue, a retired Automotive Control employee, is also survived by her husband, Calvin; sons, Tom, Jim, Donald, all of Coffeyville, Jerry of Tulsa, Tim of South Coffeyville, Okla.; brothers, Jack Goodson of Independence, Norval Goodson of Cypress, Calif.; sisters, Martha Payden of Coffeyville, Connie Moore of Cherryvale; seven grandchildren. A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Velma Ratts dies in hospital
Velma Ratts, 68, of El Dorado, died Tuesday, July 19, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
Her memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Burial will be in Towanda Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 24, 1919, to Lawrence Nina (Ollenberger) Webster in El Dorado.
On May 16, 1936 she married Pearl Ratts in Newton. He survives.
She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in El Dorado and belonged to the Friendly Neighbors Club and The Grandmothers Club.
Ratts, a former employee of Boeing Co. and J.C. Penney Co. Inc., is also survived by a son, Jerry of Denver; daughter, Alda Hackler of El Dorado; brother, Earl Webster of El Dorado; sister, Evelyn Whitacre of Wichita; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Friday funeral for P.E. Barrick
Paul E. Barrick, 89, of Wichita, father of Jean Hill of Douglass, died Tuesday, July 19.
A memorial service is set for 9 a.m. Friday at Smith Mortuary in Haysville with a graveside service to follow in Gage (Okla.) Memorial Cemetery at 3 p.m.
Barrick was a former teacher and farmer and a retired Boeing Military Airplane Co. industrial engineer.
In addition to his daughter, he is survived by his wife, Della; brother, Joe of Independence, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with South Broadway Baptist Church in Wichita.

Palmer service set for Tuesday
Verne C. “Jake” Palmer, 77, of Augusta, died Friday, July 22, at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
A memorial service has been set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Augusta. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Bill Buggeln officiating.
Palmer was born April 21, 1911, in Obion County, Tenn. to Sterling Price and Ruby Lee (Nash) Palmer. On Sept. 18, 1930, he was married to Reba Reeves in Union City, Tenn. She survives.
He was a member of the Augusta Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Larry of Augusta, Tommy of Saudi Arabia, George of Charleston, S.C.; Mary Jane Carriger of Broken Arrow, Okla.; half-brother, Charley McWherter of Union City, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Service held for Michael McCurdy
Michael Scott McCurdy, 21, of Mulvane, brother of Kristi Donohue of Douglass, died Friday, July 22.
His memorial service was held this afternoon at the Mulvane United Methodist Church.
McCurdy was a security guard for Armored Services.
In addition to his sister, he is survived by his parents, Clair and Jean of Mulvane; sisters, Cynthia, Patti McKee, both of Wichita; grandmother, Helen Blaney of Enid, Okla.
A memorial has been established with the Mulvane UMC. Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane was in charge of arrangements.
Gerald F. Sapp died July 22
Gerald F. Sapp, 74, of Wichita, father of Jerry R. Sapp and Diana Frobenius of Rose Hill, died Friday, July 22.
His service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at Cochran Mortuary in Wichita.
Sapp, a retired Boeing Co. employee, is also survived by his wife, Zerita and four grandchildren.
Graveside service for Texas resident
Mrs. Leo Van Horn, 90, of Midland, Texas, died Friday, July 22, in Midland.
A graveside service is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Rev. Burl Allison will officiate the service.
She was born Feb. 20, 1898, to Jonathan B. and Emma Lee (Thomas) Ramsey. On May 12, 1920, she married Leo E. Van Horn in Winfield. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Mrs. Van Horn was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Augusta.
She is survived by a son, Keith Van Horn of Midland; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
