Augustan’s brother was buried today
Joseph H. Braddy, 75, of Neosho, Mo. and brother of Pearl Busch of Augusta, died Monday, Oct. 24.
Services were today at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho.
Other survivors, besides his sister from here, include his wife, Nellie; sons, Richard of Douglass, Orlin, David, both of Farmingdale, N.J.; brothers, Carl of Wichita, Merle of Mulvane; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Lewis E. Sears died yesterday
Lewis E. Sears, 72, of Leon, Sears Publishing owner and former editor and publisher of the Leon News, died Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Services will be 3 p.m. on Friday at the Leon United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Keith Mace.
He was born on Dec. 5, 1915 to William and Carrie (Glines) Sears in Leon.
Lewis married Barbara on Feb.
15, 1988 in El Dorado. She survives.
Other survivors include his son, Jerry of Wellington; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Sears is a member of the Leon United Methodist Church, a charter member and first president of the Leon Lions Club. He is the former mayor and fire chief of Leon.
Memorials have been established with the Leon United Methodist Church.

Virgil Johnson funeral Tuesday
Virgil “Jake” Johnson, 82, Newton, died Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield. He was a brother of Frank and James Johnson, both of Douglass.
His funeral service will be 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 1, at the Miles Memorial Chapel in Winfield. Rev. Eugene Blake of the First Presbyterian Church will be officiating and burial in the Highland Cemetery at Winfield.
Johnson was born March 2, 1906 on a farm west of Douglass as a son of James and Emma Lichlyter Johnson.
He married the former Emmeline Moore on Feb. 26, 1947 in a ceremony at Burden. She survives.
This veteran of World War II had a lifelong interest in autioneering and was a retired worker for the Texaco Oil Co. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Clinton Lodge at Burden.
In addition to his brothers and wife, Johnson leaves three sisters, Bernice McDonald of Apple Valley, Calif., Vivian Lynn of Kenney, Texas, and Ruth Dennett of El Dorado.
Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church and the emphysema division of the American Lung Association have been sugggested.

Latham woman died Saturday
Minta M. Haring, 95, of Latham died Friday, Oct. 28.
Her service was today.
Survivors include sons, Harold of El Dorado, Stanley of Latham; daughter, Ruby Stuber of Rock; sister, Clara Cline of Atlanta; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Calson Funeral Home in El Dorado has the arrangements.

Louise Shaffer funeral today
Louise Shaffer, 67, Atlanta, died Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral service was this afternoon at the Miles Memorial
Chapel in Winfield and burial was in the Latham Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 23, 1921 on a farm near Latham as a daughter of Charlie and Anna Swisher Crabtree.
In September of 1939, she and Robert Masters were united in marriage. He died in January of 1971.
She married Frank E. Shaffer on Jan. 8, 1982. He survives.
Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the Mt. Olive Christian Church in Wichita.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, Bob Masters of Aberdeen, S.D.; a grandson, Chad Masters, also of Aberdeen; three stepsons, Randall Shaffer of Bettendorf, Iowa, Ed Shaffer of Irving, Texas, and Rick Shaffer of Council Grove; a brother, Claude Crabtree of Wichita; two sisters, Ruby Bonnell of Yates Center, and Erma Ellis of Wichita; seven step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and three infant daughters.
