William Cron, Former Clerk, Dies At 101
William W. Cron, 101, Wichita, a city clerk here for around 20 years, died Saturday at his home.
A graveside service was conducted at Elmwood Cemetery this afternoon. It was preceded by a chapel service at the Downing & Lahey Mortuary in Wichita.
Memorials to the American Heart Association have been suggested.
He was born May 22, 1881 in Vermillion, S.D., to A.G. and Emily Cron.
Because of the severe winters in South Dakota, the family set out for Texas when William was only six weeks old. Traveling in two covered wagons with two teams, they got as far as Kansas, liked the weather much better and purchased a homestead southeast of Augusta.
Cron was city clerk here from 1930 to 1950, according to his son, Gerald. After leaving the city post, the father went to southern Texas and operated a citrus grove there for about 10 years.
He retired at home next door to his son in Wichita around 1960. A street in the north part of Augusta is named for the former city clerk who served so long and so well.
He received hundreds of cards from well wishers all over the country on his 100th birthday last year.
Cron was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Augusta and the Augusta Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his son, there are three grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the United Methodist Church, Arkansas City.
Altha was born to Arthur and Edith Armstrong McVay on Dec. 2, 1901 in Augusta.
On May 26, 1920, she married Charles Burrell Graham in Oilton, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She held memberships in the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge.
Other survivors include two sons, Don of Beatrice, Neb., and Joseph of Arkansas City; two daughters, Rhea Graham of Hutchinson and Nola McDill of Topeka; a brother, Wayne McVay of Wichita; another two sisters, Luella Harris of Overland Park and Lyda Hunt of Elk City, Okla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Michael E. Kearns
A funeral service for Michael E. Kearns, 28, Wichita, was held today at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
Kearns, stepson of Don Royal, Towanda, reportedly died from injuries suffered in a recent fight outside a Wichita establishment.

Dymond Dies In Augusta
Wayne Elton Dymond, 68, Wichita, co-owner of Comfort Shoes of Wichita, died Saturday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Towanda Cemetery. Rev. Fred Pinkerton will officiate.
Wayne was born to Wilbur E. and Mable Stewart Dymond on June 26, 1914.
He married B. Nadine Jones on October 12, 1966 in Wichita. She survives.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wichita, served in World War II and was a member of the Douglass American Legion Post 202.
Other survivors include a son, Ron of Wichita, stepsons, Jerry Adkisson of Kansas City, Mo., and Ernest Adkisson of Austin, Texas; a stepdaughter, Patsy Boll of Wichita; and 14 grandchildren.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
