Former Augustan dies at age 86
Hazel Leila Etta (Towner) Turner, 86, formerly of Augusta, died Sunday, Jan. 9, at the El Dorado Nursing Home.
Her services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. David Turner will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born to Clarence Le Bon and Daisy A. Towner on Sept. 10, 1902 in La Harpe.
On Feb. 26, 1919 she was united in marriage to Lloyd J. Turner in El Dorado.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd; sons Jesse, Jack, Bill, all of Augusta, John of Clay Center, David of Douglass, Joe of Emporia, Richard of Rosalia, Jim of Bennington; sisters, Norma Thompson, Barbara Hutson, both of El Dorado, Carol Goss, Lois Kilgore, both of Wichita, Frances Payne of Augusta, Mary Camp of Arkansas City; brother, Estler H. “Etts” Towner of Ojai, Calif.; 59 grandchildren; 103 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother, son, three grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great-granddaughters.

Rural Augustan died at age 88
Margaret Mary Edwards, 88, of rural Augusta died Thursday, Jan. 12, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Her services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Dunsford Chapel. The Rev. Dan Ferguson will be officiating and burial will be the White Chapel Cemetery in Wichita.
She was born to John and Lottie (Warboy) Doyle in Green Bay, Wis. on Feb. 12, 1900.
On Feb. 11, 1928 she married Roby W. Edwards in Newkirk, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Survivors include her son, Dean of Augusta; daughter, Norma J. Brown of Wichita; brother, Bert Doyle of Claflin; sisters, Rose Larrick of Topeka, Katherine Scott of Augusta, Grace Davis of Wichita; sister-in-law, Ena Edwards R.N.; four grandchildren, Barbara J. Brown of Falls Church, Va., Dean S. Edwards of Lewisville, Texas, Stephen D. Edwards and Diane Edwards of Augusta; and one great-grandchild, Dylan J. Edwards of Lewisville.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society and the Douglass United Methodist Church.

Butler’s mother passed away Friday
Hazel E. (Nelson) Butler, 82, a homemaker from Eureka and mother of Richard Butler of Augusta, died Friday, Jan. 13.
Her services were at 2 p.m. today at Campbell Funeral Home.
Other survivors, besides her son from here, include sons, Glen of Eureka, Albert of Neal, Jack of Waynesville, Mo., Steven of Humboldt; daughters, Dorothy Vinson, Wanda Frakes, both of Eureka, Dixie Holm of Morrison, Colo.; sisters, Gladys Williams of Eureka, Ruth Pickens of El Dorado; 35 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Greenwood County Hospital.

Carol Bergman died at age 55
Carol M. Bergman, 55, of Augusta and former HCA Wesley Medical Center laboratory employee, died Friday.
There will be no services.
She was born on Feb. 16, 1933 in Wenatchee, Wash. to John Knox and Thelma (Barnes) McArther.
Survivors include husband, John D.; sons, Donald C. Huemann of Wichita, Gary L. Davis of Willamina, Ore., Duran M. Davis of Aurora, Colo.; stepson, Brian of Wichita, William B. of Grand Prairie, Texas; brothers, J.K. McArther of Wenatchee, W.E. McArther of Chile; and five grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the University of Kansas Medical Center-Wichita.
Lakeview Funeral Home in Wichita has the arrangements.

Augustan’s father died Thursday in Southwest Kansas
Floid Thompson Bird, 70, of Hugoton and father of John Benton Bird of Augusta, died Thursday, Jan. 12.
His services were Saturday at the First Church of God.
Bird, a retired Stevens County engineer, is survived by his wife, Jane; sons, Robert Earl of Rockville, Md., James Floid of Woodard, Okla., John Benton of Augusta; brother, Larry Thompson of Kent, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the First Church of God.
Kitch Funeral Home in Liberal has the arrangements.

Services pending for Inez Windham
Inez C. Windham, 79, of Wichita and mother of Effie Ann McClure of Leon, died Saturday.
Her services are pending.
Survivors included sons, William O., George D., both of Wichita, Donald M. of Haysville,
Rolland G. of San Diego; daughters, Dorothy M. Baughman, Charlotte D. DeLuca, Mary A. Dunlap, all of Wichita, Effie of Leon, Beverly I. Hero of Lago Vista, Texas; 34 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army Citadel Corps.
