Burnett’s mother died Sunday
Mary S. (Jennings) Wigley, 60, homemaker from Arkansas City and mother of Carlos Burnett of Augusta, died Sunday.
Her services were Tuesday. Other survivors, besides her son from here, include son James Burnett of Arkansas City; daughter, Brenda Hayes of Oxford; brothers, Lewis Jennings of Warren, Ark; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Rindt-Erdman-Oldroyd Funeral Home has the arrangements.

Former Augustan died in California
Holbert E. Robison, 79, of Long Beach, Calif. and former Augustan passed away.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Kirk of Long Beach; brothers, Ebert Robison of Augusta, Wilton Robison of Tustin, Calif., and Marion Robison of Redding Calif.

John S. Martin dies at age 68
John S. Martin Jr., 68, retired Southwestern Bell Telephone employee, died Thursday, Feb. 2.
There was a rosary Sunday at Watt Funeral Home in Moline and his funeral service was today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moline.
Survivors include his wife, Millie; sons, Thomas B. of Hutchinson, John S. III of Douglass; daughters, Nancy Barnaby, Jean Martin, both of Manhattan, Sally Morgan of Douglass, Patty Wiseman of Howard; father, John S. Martin Sr.; brother, James of Lubbock, Texas, Robert of Rossville, Donald, Raymond, both of Topeka; sisters, Bonnie VandeVelde of Kansas City, Nona Halton of Eufaula, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the Southeast Kansas Telephone Pioneers and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Burial for Essick set in Eureka
Nellie Fay Essick, 94, of Augusta and formerly of Eureka, died Sunday, Feb. 5, at Walnut Valley Manor.
Her services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell Funeral Home in Eureka. Burial will be the Greenwood Cemetery.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1894 near Eureka to George and Fanny (Lang) Walford.
On Feb. 10, 1915 she was united in marriage to John D. Essick in Eureka. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1975.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary Fay Sanderson of Littleton, Colo., Georgie Taylor of Wichita, Annabelle Howard of Andover, Louise Klyesteuber of El Dorado, and Gayle Buckle; sister, Verna Reid of Glad Water, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been suggested to the American Heart Association.

Augustan’s niece died in Oklahoma
Krista K. (Jolly) Morris, 35, of Bethany, Okla., formerly of South Coffeyville, Okla., and niece of Martha Watts of Augusta, died at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Her funeral was Saturday in Parsons at Burris-Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
She had been seriously ill for the past six months. She had an operation in Phoenix, Ariz., and treatment in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include her two children, Brent and Shelly of Bethany; mother, Mary Reynolds of Bethany and formerly of Augusta; cousins, Donna Pope of Augusta, Karen Meeks of Augusta, and Wade Dulin of Wichita.

McNown’s sister died Saturday
Arlene Day, 65, of Wichita and sister of Wayne McNown of Douglass, died Saturday, Feb. 4.
Services for Day, a retired Mid-Kansas Saving & Loan Association teller and secretary, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with burial at 4 p.m. in the Moline Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Craig of Wichita; step-son, Larry Day of DeSoto, Texas; brothers, Don McNown of Towanda, Russell McNown of Sedan, Wayne McNown of Douglass; and sisters, Peggy Ward, Alta Fern Reed, both of Wichita, Marjorie Wilson, Lorene Runyon, both of Sedan, Louise Seward of Lexington, Neb.
Memorial has been established with the First Bible Baptist Church.
Broadway Mortuary in Wichita has the arrangements.

Criger services were held today
Grace I. Criger, 86, of Wichita and mother of Richard Criger of Douglass, died Saturday, Feb. 4.
Her funeral was today at Broadway Mortuary in Wichita.
Other survivors, besides her son from Douglass, include daughters, Mary F. Craig, Carol Ukana, both of Wichita; brother, Glen Holloway of Bethany, Mo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Roy W. McCrea rites pending
Roy Wesley McCrea of Augusta died today.
His funeral arrangements are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
