Ben E. Hargrove memorial today
A memorial service for Ben E. Hargrove, 70, Bella Vista, Ark., father of Rebecca Ann “Becky” Cox from Augusta, was held this afternoon at the Bella Vista Baptist Church with Rev. George O’Neal officiating.
Hargrove died from injuries suffered in an April 27 traffic accident near Bella Vista.
He was born Sept. 1, 1918 in Atoka, Okla., as a son of Keene and Ettie Ward Hargrove.
Hargrove attended Oklahoma A&M at Stillwater, Okla. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy Seabees.
He worked for the Ajax Pipeline Co., Augusta-El Dorado Water Association, and Safelite Glass Co. during his life.
Memberships included the Bella Vista Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, Adult Chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Men’s 18-Hole Golf Association of Belle Vista, and the Nomad Shrine Club.
In addition to the daughter here, he leaves his wife, Clarabel; a son, Delbert Hargrove of Mulvane; another daughter, Gerry Lackey of Beaumont, Texas; a sister, Marybel Lasiter of Tulsa, Okla., and six grandchildren.
Memorials to the Adult Chapter of FCA have been suggested. The FCA address is 8701 Leeds Road, Kansas City, Mo., 64129.
The Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville, Ark., was in charge of arrangements.

Former Augustan died on April 24
Paul Richard Finney, born Sept. 25, 1925 in Augusta and a retired army serviceman, died April 24 in Bend, Ore.
No services will be held and he is survived by his wife, Margaretta of Bend; his daughter, Paula, three grandchildren, all of Tacoma, Wash.; mother, Julia, and sister Bea, both of Sacramento, Calif.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Bend, P.O. Box 1146, Bend, Ore. 97709.

Grandfather dies at nursing home
George W. LeGrande Jr., 88, of El Dorado and grandfather of Sherry Cohen of Augusta, died Sunday, April 30, at the Knutson Manor nursing home in El Dorado.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Walnut Valley Park cemetery in El Dorado with Rev. Mel Brown officiating.
He was bom July 23, 1900 in Kingman County as a son of George W. LeGrande Sr. and Margaret Frances Marshall LeGrande.
LeGrande was a retired foreman for the Appalachian Power Co.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to the granddaughter here, he leaves a wife, Blossom, a son, Logan of Pensacola, Fla.; a grandson, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the Home Health Care program of Susan B. Allen Hospital in El Dorado have been suggested.

Augustans’ sister died in Kentucky
Mrs. Ollie Neal of Jefferson Town, Ken. and sister of Rhonda Kemper and Jessie Reetz, both of Augusta, died Monday.
Services were held today in Jefferson Town.

Thursday, May 4, 1989
Augustan’s sister died in Newton
Dorothy W. Hartenberger, 71, of Newton and sister of Iola Porter of Augusta, died Tuesday.
Her services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Draper-Cannon chapel in Newton. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
She was born in Newton on April 3, 1918 to Patrick W. and Ella Margaret (Thomas) Sughrue.
On June 8, 1942 she was united in marriage to Wilbur C. Hartenberger in Long Beach, Calif. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1972.
Besides her sister from here, survivors include two brothers, Leo Sughrue of Salem, Ore. and Clarence Sughrue of Benton. Ark.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Jack Crandall funeral today
Jack R. Crandall, 62, of Augusta and retired Coca Cola Co. maintenance employee and musician, died Saturday.
His services were held today at Resthaven Mortuary.
Crandall, a member of the Masonic Lodge 99 in Wichita, was born on Dec. 25, 1926 in Wichita to James Dale and Iva Viola (Dee) Crandall.
On March 5, 1988 he was united in marriage to Raedine Bond in Wichita.
Survivors include his wife, Raedine; son, Tom of Dodge City; daughters, Sandra Hill of Wichita, Lana Reigle of Hiawatha; sister, Dee Adams of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials are to the American Heart Association.
