Augustan found dead in Wichita
the body, found in a basement apartment, had some stab wounds.
Col. Dotson said a neighbor was asked by her mother to check Maness’ residence after she did not report for work yesterday. On his first check, the neighbor did not enter the apartment and left a note on her door advising her to call her mother.
Later in the day, the mother asked the neighbor to check for her daughter again. This time, he found an unlocked sliding glass patio door and then found her body.
According to reports, Maness had moved to the , condominium on the first of March. She was recently elected secretary of a neighborhood homeowners’ association and went house-to-house Tuesday evening to poll neighbors about lawn and garbage service.
According to one neighbor, Maness had expressed fear about dark areas near her house. Several incidents of vandalism and theft had been reported in the 9300 block of East Funston.
During her high school years, Maness was involved in band, pep club, and Future Homemakers of America. While she attended Butler County Community College she was the featured twirler for the band.

A funeral service for Ms. Maness will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Augusta First United Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Kieler officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born to Donald Gene and Bonnie Sue Maness on Dec. 12, 1963 in Wichita.
The 1982 AHS grad leaves her parents, Gene and Bonnie of Augusta; a sister, Sandi Jenee Maness of the home; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Shoger of Augusta.
