Arnold W. Callies dies at hospital
Retired maintenance worker Arnold William Callies, 75, of Augusta, died Friday, Sept. 1, at Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral service was held today, Sept. 5, at the Dunsford
Funeral Home chapel. Rev. William Childress, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, officiated and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
Callies was born Aug. 6, 1914 in Howard, S.D., as a son of William and Mary Eggert Callies.
On Oct. 11, 1945, he married the former Eunice Terveen in a ceremony at Pipestone, Minn.
This World War II veteran was a member of Augusta’s Christ Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons, Harlan Hartman of Amarillo, Texas, Stanley Callies of Beaumont, and Pat Callies of Augusta; two daughters, Linda Archer and Pam Burch, both of Augusta; two brothers, Gerhardt and Reinhold Callies, both of Howard, S.D., and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son (Rodney) and a brother (August).

Lillie M. Wise, 87, of Augusta, died today, Sept. 6, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her services are pending with Dunsford Funeral Home.
Church membership
Arnold William Callies, 75, of Augusta, who died Friday, Sept. 1, was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard, S.D., and not Christ Lutheran Church here as reported in yesterday’s Gazette. His wife, Eunice, survives along with three sons, two daughters, two brothers, and nine grandchildren.

Services Friday for Lillie Wise
Augustan Lillie May Wise, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her services will be 9 a.m. Friday in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Frank Miller officiating. On that day at 5:30 p.m. graveside services will be held in Arden Cemetery, Ava, Mo.
She is survived by her sons, Bon Walker of McPherson, Lonnie Walker of California, Alvin York of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters, Inez Walker of Augusta, Mary Hills of Sioux City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Lillie was born July 21, 1902 to Eli and Louisa Lakey in Ava. On Jan. 24, 1957 she married Clarence Wise in Springfield, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1977.
She was also preceded in death by her two brothers and three sisters.
Wise, a member of the Church of the Nazarene, was a homemaker.

Elma L. Smith funeral tomorrow
Douglass homemaker Elma L. Smith who has been in a Haysville nursing home for the past few years died Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita at age 81.
Her funeral service will be 10 o’clock tomorrow morning at the Hilyard Smith Funeral Home in Douglass with Earl Moody of the Jehovah’s Witnesses officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery at Wilmot, Kan.
Smith was born Dec. 29, 1907 at Belle Plaine as a daughter of Robert and Clara Potter Smith.
Survivors include a brother, Darrel of Newton, and a sister, Geneva Simoneau of Wichita.
