Saturday service for L. Cornelius
Lawrence E. “Mutt” Cornelius, 74, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Harold Kieler officiating.
The United States Navy veteran of World War II is survived by his wife, Rowena; sisters, Paulene Peterson of Omaha, Neb., Bernice Carter of Denver, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was born to Ralph and Martha Cornelius on Dec. 22, 1914 in Augusta. On May 7, 1938 he married Rowena Patterson in Wichita.
Cornelius was preceded in death by one sister, Viola Willey.
Memorials are to the First United Methodist Church, new children’s department.

Augustan’s mother died on Wednesday
Eva J. Schaeffer, 56, of Wichita and mother of Augustan Gene Schaeffer, died Wednesday.
Services for the homemaker will be 10 a.m. Friday in the First Pentacostal Church with burial at 3 p.m. in Sperry Cemetery, Sperry, Okla.
Other survivors, besides her
son from here, include daughter, Sheila Fox, mother, Inez Evans, brother, Richard Evans, all of Wichita; sister, Wanda Ragsdale of Tulsa; and four grandchildren.
Broadway Mortuary is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Friday service for McNown’s sister
Sister of Douglass man Wayne McNown, Marjorie B. Wilson, 69, died Tuesday.
The Wichita woman is survived by her husband, Robert Alford; sons, Jimmy Lewis of Lawrence, Kenneth Lewis of Isleton, Calif., Bobby Lewis of Wichita; daughter, Marjorie Stempson of Neodesha; brothers, Russell McNown of Sedan,
Wayne McNown of Douglass, Don McNown of Towanda; sisters, Lorine Runyon of Sedan, Peggy Ward, Alta Fern Ehrlich, both of Wichita, Louise Seward of Lexington, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her service will be held in the Graves-Baird Funeral Home at 10 Friday morning.

William C. “Chuck” Reed, 35, Burlington, N.J., died Friday, Sept. 22. He is the son of Don and Betty Reed of Augusta.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.

Clay E. Martin died on Saturday
Retired farmer/stockman Clay E. Martin, 92, Leon, died Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Knutson Manor nursing home in El Dorado.
His funeral service will be 11 o’clock Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Ministers Lilly DaMetz and Max DaMetz of the United Church of Christ will officiate and burial will be in the Blankenship Cemetery near Rosalia.
He was born Sept. 15, 1897 at Leon as a son of Robert B. and Maude Mae Chamberlain Martin.
Martin was a member of the Little Walnut Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Hattie Bishop of Wichita as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
