‘Gene’ Alcorn Sr. funeral tomorrow
A funeral service for Eugene “Gene” Alcorn Sr., 54, Towanda, will be 1:30 o’clock Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the United Methodist Church in Towanda. Rev. Fred C. Houston will officiate and burial will be in the Towanda Cemetery.
Alcorn died Friday, Sept. 22, at the HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born Oct. 13, 1934 in Pond Creek, Okla., as a son of Hobert and Lena Simpson Alcorn.
Alcorn and the former Shirley Miller were united in marriage on July 3, 1981 in Towanda. She survives.
He also leaves sons, Eugene Alcorn Jr. of El Dorado, Roy L. Alcorn, Robert Harrelson, and Wayne Harrelson, all of Augusta; a daughter, Lena Alcorn of Wichita; brothers, Glenn Alcorn of El Dorado, Raymond Alcorn of Towanda, Russell Alcorn of Wheatland, Wyo.; a sister, Phyllis Salmans of Cassoday, and two grandchildren.
The Kirby-Morris Funeral Home at El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.

‘Chuck’ Reed burial Friday
William C. “Chuck” Reed, 35, of Burlington, New Jersey, died Friday, Sept. 22.
His funeral will be held 10 o’clock Friday morning, Sept. 29, in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel here with Rev. Art Wilson of Haverhill Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born June 30, 1954 in
Wichita, to Don and Betty Reed of Augusta. They survive.
He served his country as a member of the United State Marine Corps. He worked as a machinist.
Besides his parents, he leaves a grandfather, William E. Reed of Wichita; a brother, Lonnie in Arkansas; and two sisters, Ladonna Watts and Pamela Reed, of Bowling Green, Ky.
James Wheatley dies in Chanute
James J. Wheatley, 74, of Chanute, the father of Augustan Mike Wheatley, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, at his residence in Chanute.
A memorial service has been scheduled for 11 o’clock Thursday, Sept. 28, morning in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel in Chanute.
He was born April 2, 1915 to George Talmadge and Mabel Smith Wheatley in Wilson County.
He married Ellen Chapman Feb. 16, 1935, in Abilene. She survives.
Wheatley was retired as superintendent of Berthot Construction Co. He was also a State of Kansas Architect’s Office inspector for the University of Kansas Medical Center construction in Kansas City, Kan.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Mike of Augusta and Pat of Chanute; three daughters, Leah Sutcliffe of Midland, Texas, Peggy Black of Wichita and Jo Ellen Criger of Overbrook; a brother, William Hugh of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Elsie Wrench of Sun City, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mary Reinhart dies in Topeka
Mary A. (Fitzwater) Reinhart, 84, Topeka, sister of William Fitzwater of Augusta, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka.
Her funeral service will be 10 o’clock Friday morning, Sept. 29, at the Lamb-Nutter Mortuary in Whitewater with Rev. Dick Weaver of the Whitewater Federated Church officiating and burial in Walnut Valley Memorial Park at El Dorado.
She was born Dec. 29, 1904 in Augusta as a daughter of Stephen D. and Lucy M. Fitzwater.
On Jan. 27, 1931, she married John Russell Reinhart at a ceremony in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in December of 1985.
In addition to the brother here, she leaves two sons, J.D. Reinhart of El Dorado and Harold Burchard of Towanda; a sister, Mildred Potter of Wichita; three grandsons, and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the Countryside United Methodist Church at Topeka have been suggested.
