John W. Baskett died in Texas
Douglass native John W. Baskett, 86, Palestine, Texas, died Wednesday, Dec. 13.
His graveside service was today at the Restland Cemetery with Dr. Ken Dickason of the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas, officiating.
He was the son of Josie Purcell Baskett and William Tell Fleener Baskett.
Mr. Baskett, who resided at the Lakeview Methodist Conference Center near Palestine, leaves a daughter, Mary Lou Krause of Palestine and a son, John David Basket of Grand Prairie, Texas; a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations to the Dallas Council on World Affairs or to the Lakeview Methodist Conference Center have been suggested.

Roy F. Brazell dies at age 56
Roy Franklin Brazell, 56, Augusta, died Saturday, Dec. 16.
His funeral service will be 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 20, at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
He was born June 8, 1933 to Robert Franklin Brazell and Loy Oleta Hill in Roosevelt, Okla.
He was in the Navy Reserves and saw action in the Korean Conflict while serving on the USS Albany (1952-54).
On July 11, 1954, he married Shirley Marlene Ford. They had three children, Cynthia Marie Brazell, Pamela Jane Martin, and Russell Franklin Brazell.
Mr. Brazell worked 22 years for Rainbo Bread Co. as a route salesman and has been a department manager for Wal-Mart for 12 years.
Brazell was a member of the Lakecrest Bible Baptist Church of Augusta.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1979.
Other survivors include his mother, a sister Janice Barr of Wichita, brother Larry Brazell of Blue Springs, Mo., seven grandchildren, Mandy, Chris, and Roy Martin, Ryan, Echo, Matthew, and Kaysie Brazell, son-in-law Bill Martin, and daughter-in-law Deanne Brazell.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

James services today
Funeral services for Leonard M. “Arky” James, 80, Augusta, were at 10 a.m. today at the Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Schmidt of Augusta; brothers, Martin James of West Helena, Arkl, Joseph James of Anniston, Ala., Frank James of East Gadsden, Ala., Gene James of Forrest City, Ark., Carrol James of Royal Oak, Mich., Edward Lee James of West Memphis, Ark.; sisters, Ruth Sims of Piedmont, Ala., Mary Gann, Gladys Taylor, both of Forrest City, Martha Hardes of Findlay, Ohio; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

McConnell dies Monday
Esther McConnell, 92, Oak Park, Ill., died Monday, Dec. 18, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Dunsford Funeral Home chapel. Her grandson, the Rev. Larry McConnell, will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born May 25, 1897 to William Jones and Augusta Rosenow. She married Charles F. McConnell in Oak Park. He preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1971.
McConnell had been a retired homemaker.
