Lynda Smith dies in New Mexico
Lynda Lee Smith, 44, of Los Alamos, N.M., died Saturday, Jan. 27, in Los Alamos.
Services were at 10 a.m. today at the Los Alamos Church of Christ. Burial was in the Guaje Pines Cemetery in the same town.
Smith was born June 9, 1945 in El Dorado to Ralph and Lois Courcier Lietzke. She graduated from high school in Augusta and from Washburn University in Topeka.
One Aug. 21, 1966, she married Michael Smith in Augusta. They lived in Lexington, Ky. where she taught school for one year. They then moved to Camarillo, Calif, where she taught
school for eight years. In 1977, they moved to Los Alamos where Smith worked as a substitute teacher.
Smith was a member of the Church of Christ and was very active in youth activities and organizations.
Survivors include her husband of Los Alamos; son Ryan Lee Smith and daughter Dana Lea Smith, both of the home; a brother, Ed Leitzke of Texas; a sister, Nancy Martin and her husband Roy of Harrison, Ark.; and an aunt, Artie Leitzke of Augusta.
McGee Memorial Chapel in Santa Fe., N.M, is in charge of arrangements.

Vern Kush dies in Jan. 8 in Wyoming
Graveside services for Vern P. Kush, 87, Casper, Wyo., were conducted at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, the Rev. Martin Skogen with Shepherd of the Valley Care Center officiating.
Kush died Jan. 8 at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 4, 1902 in Ponca City, Okla., to Walter and Abigail (Church) Kush.
Kush was educated in country schools near Augusta, and he received his diploma in petroleum processing from International Correspondence School in 1938. He started working for the White Eagle Refining Company at Augusta in 1919 and transferred to the Casper refinery in
1924, and retired on Jan. 1, 1960.
On July 23, 1924, he married Florence Ellen Young in Wichita. She preceded him in death in 1968. He later married Learoy Welch Folley on July 25, 1970, in Casper and she preceded him in death in 1982.
He was a member of the Texaco baseball team in the Oil City League from 1925 to 1928, and was a member of Natrona Lodge 51, AF&AM, Elks Lodge 1353 in Casper, and the First Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Vern R. Kush of Yankton, S.D.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Norvall F. Baker funeral tomorrow
Retired construction worker Norvall Francis Baker, 67, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, at his home in West Augusta.
His graveside funeral service will be 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison will officiate.
He was born April 11, 1922 in Mason City, Neb., as a son of Bert Baker and Helen Mossman Smith Baker.
On Sept. 22, 1959, he and the former Fayma Earlene Nance were united in marriage in Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death in 1979.
Survivors include a step-son, Chris Milhauser of Wichita; two daughters, Faye Lynn Boley of Augusta, and Velta Jean Sitsler of Coffeyville; two brothers, Jimmy Baker of Kentucky and Jerry Baker of Florida; a sister, Peggy Boone of Pittsburg, and six grandchildren.
Baker served in the military during World War II and was a member of the American Legion post at Mulvane.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
