Lawrence A. Meis Sr. dies Saturday

Retired sign painter, Lawrence A. Meis Sr., 62, Augusta, died Saturday, Sept. 22, after a short illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado.
Burial will be at Walnut Valley Memorial Park, El Dorado.
He was born July 31, 1928, near Hoxie and had lived in Augusta since 1970.
He retired from Dunn & Sons sign business, Wichita, in 1987.
Meis was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Wichita, and a former Mason and Shriner.
He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean conflict.
On Sept. 17,1950, he married Mildred Huber at Ellis.
Survivors include wife, Mildred; sons, Lawrence Jr., Andrew, both of Rose Hill, James of Augusta,
Jack of Salina; daugthers, Linda C. Sanders of Merritt, N.C.,
Tina McCluer, Geraldine Fulk, both of El Dorado; brothers, Gilbert of Hays, Duane of Dallas;
sisters, Delores Ludlow of Wichita, Ida McGree-vey of Salina,
Thelma Barnes of Fairmont, Minn., Anna Wrig of Franklin, Ga.;
16 grandchildren
A memorial has been established with Christ Lutheran Church of Wichita.


Kenneth Dains services Tuesday

Kenneth “Kenny” Dains, 63, Cassoday, died Saturday, Sept. 22.
He had been a 20-year resident of rural Augusta.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Burial will be at Lakeview Moseleum in Wichita.
He was born March 7,1927, in Council Grove to Perle and Edith (Hines) Dains.
He was a retired vice president and general manager of Must Uniform Rental. Dains moved from the Wagon Wheel Ranch in rural Augusta to Cassoday where he was current caretaker for the Fox Lake Club. ____
On June 12,1949, he married Joan Norman in Wichita, She survives.

Uhrig funerals still pending

Funeral services for Rose and Harry Uhrig of Augusta, who died this weekend,
were still pending this morning at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
An out-of-town son is expected to arrive tomorrow to make arrangements.

Retired Mobil Oil refinery employee Jay Reed, 99, Augusta, died Saturday, Sept. 22, at his home.
His funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Harold Kieler will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Reed was born May 2,1891 in Middlepoint, Ohio, as a son of Silas Reed and Hannah McIlha-ney Reed.
He married the former Imo Boucher on Oct. 24, 1917 in Augusta. She preceded him in death in 1984.
Reed was a longtime member of the Augusta Kiwanis Club having joined the civic organization in 1926. He withdrew from the club in 1929 and rejoined around 1960.
On his 90th birthday, he became a life member of the Kiwanis Foundation.
In 1988, Reed received the Kiwanis 30-year Legion of Honor award from his fellow Kiwa-nians. He had held several com-mittee chairmanships over the years including many years serv-ing as chairman of the Kiwani Pancake Day foodstuffs procure- ment committee.
Survivors include sons, Lyle Reed of Wichita, Jerald Reed of Decatur, Ala.; daughter, Maxine Frost of Augusta; sisters, Minnie Delong of Towanda, Grace Uhl of Toronto; 10 grandchildren,
and 14 great-grandchildren.
