Augusta relatives lose brother, brother-in-law
Carl Smith, 79, Wichita, brother of Augustans Ed Wilson, Eleanor Crowder, Betty Hutter,
and Donna Marshall, died Friday, Oct. 5.
Those Augustans also lost a brother-in-law, Lyle “Pete” Pray, 80, also of Wichita, this weekend.
He died Sunday, Oct 7.
Smith’s funeral service was this afternoon at the DeVorss Flannagan-Hunt Mortuary in Wichita.
Smith, who once worked as a real estate agent for Don Dinning Co., formerly lived in Augusta.
Other survivors include his wife, Lois, and sister Mary Eastin of Kermit, Texas.
Pray’s funeral service will be 11 o’clock Wednesday morning at the Seltzer Methodist Church on Harry Street.
In addition to the Augusta relatives named above, Pray leaves his wife, Fern,
sons Ira Pray of Wichita and Don Pray of Oregon.
Memorials to the Seltzer Methodist Church are suggested.
Doris Lee Hauser funeral Thursday
Day care center center employee Doris Lee Hauser, 50, Tucson, Ariz., died Friday, Oct. 5.
She is the sister of Augusta residents Imogene Reed and Richard Hardesty.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Augusta.
Hauser is a former Augusta resident.
Other survivors include husband, Charles; sons, Charles Jr. of Alabama, Jeff Hill of Hutchinson,
Greg Hill of Tucson; daughters, Jeanie Downing of Milpitas, Calif.,
Linda Doggett of Le Roy; Margaret Hunt of Haysville, Susie Hill, Sandra Tuhn, both of Tucson;
brother, Earl Hardesty of Grove, Okla.; nine grandchildren.
Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Lora Mae Yazel died Saturday
Retired beautician Lora Mae Hartwick Yazel, 90, Whitewater, died Saturday, Oct. 6.
She is the stepmother of Marion Nelson of Augusta.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Federated Church, Whitewater.
Other survivors include son, Phil Hartwick of Whitewater; 11 grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Cambridge (Kan.) Presbyterian Church.
Lamb-Nutter Mortuary, Whitewater, is in charge of arrangements.
Sister of Augusta resident dies Oct. 6
Joyce E. Ball, 54, El Dorado, died Saturday ."Oct. 6, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado.
She is the sister of Augusta resident Gary Ball.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado,
the Rev. Stan Seymour officiating.
Burial will be in the Walnut Valley Memorial Park. Ball was born April 5,1936, in Potwin
to Blanche M. (Davis) and H.L. Ball. They survive.
Other survivors include sister-in-law Jeannie Ball of Augusta; two neices, Traci and Tricia Ball of Augusta;
and a nephew, Troy, of Augusta.
A memorial has been established with the Institute of Logopedics.

Keith Van Arsdale funeral services Friday
Maintenance worker at Pratt & Lambert Inc. in Andover, Keith Van Arsdale, 45, Augusta, died Sunday, Oct. 7, at home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Dunsford Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Burl Allison officiating.
Burial will be in Andover Cemetery.
Van Arsdale was born Oct. 3, 1945, in Wichita to Jean (Hanna) and Joseph Van Arsdale.
He was married to Martha Rollins for 23 years. They divorced.
Survivors include sons Vance, Rex and Michael of Augusta; daughters, Jean Van Arsdale of Pittsburg, Calif.;
brothers, Don of Edwardsville, Ill., Richard of Andover, Max of Pittsburg, Calif.,
Jerry of Beaumont, Texas; sisters, Jo Retta Anderson of Middlesburg, Fla., Karen McQueen of Clearwater;
two grandchildren, Teddy and Lonna Van Arsdale of Augusta.
A memorial has been established with the Basic Cancer Research and Alzheimers.
Bayard ‘Brad’ Brown funeral Thursday
Retired electronic parts sales man Bayard “Brad” Brown, 67 Wichita, died Sunday, Oct. 7.
He is the brother of Phillip Brown of Augusta.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church, Wichita.
Other survivors include wife, Shirley; son, William of Wichita; daughter Maribeth Riley of Wichita;
nine grandchildren
A memorial has been established with Immanuel Baptist Church.
Quiring-Old Mission Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
