Fred A. Rhine dies at hospital

Fred A. Rhine Jr., 90, Augusta, died Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Augusta Medical Complex Inc.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the
First Christian Church with Rev. Michael Omundson officiating.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Blue Rapids.
Rhine was born July 20,1900 in Olathe to Neeta Cooper and Fred A. Rhine Sr.
On April 25,1925, he married Rose Kotapish in Manhattan.
Survivors include his wife; sisters, Margaret Sharone of Toano, Va., Myrl Mueller of Paragould, Ark.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Lyle, George and Harold.
Rhine was a member of the First Christian Church, a charter member of the Lions Club
and past president of the Rotary Club. He managed the former Lehr’s Cafe downtown
and later worked at the Lunger’s Furniture Store of Augusta.
He was builder of the brick “A” at Augusta Medical Complex.
Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Thomas Thompson service tomorrow

Thomas Blaine “Jack” Thompson, 98, Augusta, died Thursday, Oct. 11, at the
Augusta Medical Complex Long Term Care Unit.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate.
Thompson was born Jan. 4, 1892, in Goodwin, Ark., to Belle Hood Sanford and Issac Thomas Thompson.
On Sept. 15,1914, he married Ida Bell Aldridge in Newport, Ark. She preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 1969.
Thompson was a member of the local Masonic Lodge and was a retired businessman.
Survivors include a son, James Thompson of Augusta;
daughters, Dorothy Smitherman and Elsie Lehr, both of Augusta, Margaret Neeley of Wichita;
brother, Hubert Thompson of Augusta; sisters, Nellie Thompson, Mabel Hedrick and Flossie Mahannah, all of Augusta;
14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Arthur C. Thompson preceded him in death in 1983.
Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Evelyn Marguerite Thompson, who died in 1933.
Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the Augusta Arts Council for preservation of the Augusta Theatre.

Brother of Augustan dies Oct. 7

Ben T. Britt,J 64, Ocean City, N.J., died Sunday, Oct. 7. He is the sister of Augusta resident Barbara Ann Dunsford.
Other survivors include Dunsford’s children, Joe of Tulsa, Okla., Debbie Sue Wattenbarger of Wichita,
Jack of Andover and John of Augusta.

Faune I. Simmons dies Monday

Faune I. Simmons, 81, Rose Hill, died Monday, Oct. 15, at Heritage Village of Rose Hill. She is the mother of Dolores Lipscomb of Augusta.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Rose Hill Methodist Church, the Rev. Kip Ryherd officiating.
Burial will be in Dunlap Cemetery, Rose Hill.
Simmons was born July 5, 1909, to Jennie Ward and Wyatt Reeves.
On Dec. 26,1925, she married Jacob J. Simmons in Wichita. He survives.
Other survivors include son, Keith Simmons of Rose Hill; daughter, Phyllis Carr of Wichita; brother, William Lowell Reeves of El Dorado; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-greatgrandchildren.
Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the Rose Hill Methodist Church.
