Mother of Augustan dies Tuesday

Savina G. Carrillo, 77, Winfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
She is the mother of Benito Carrillo Sr. of Augusta. .
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.
Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield.
She was born Dec. 31,1912, in El Paso, Texas to Feleciano and Maria Del Rejufio Gutierrez.
On July 11,1929, she married Encamacion Carrillo in Winfield. He preceded her in death Sept. 29.
She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Survivors include five other sons, Jesse (Bob) and Arthur of Winfield, Paul Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.,
Phillip and Lito of Wichita; three daughters, Toni Camp and Mary Snetsinger of Winfield,
Pauline Silva of Wichita; a sister, Romona Amezcua of Winfield; 37 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in cate of the funeral home.

Robert W. Cheek dies in Bartlesville

Robert W. Cheek, 53, Bartlesville, Okla., died Tuesday, Oct. 16. He was a former Augusta resident.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Stumpff Funeral Home in Bartlesville, Dr. Lum Newberry.
Graveside services will be 4 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born May 5, 1937, in Pyatt, Ark., to Clifford and Effie (Casey) Cheek.
He was raised and recieved his education in Pyatt.
Cheek worked for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad in Wichita and surrounding areas as a depot agent
and entered the traffic department in 1962 in Kansas City, Mo.
He later worked in Springfield, Mo., and Tulsa, Okla.
He began work for the National Zinc Corporation in 1968 and continued through this year.
On Aug. 29, 1958, Peggy Keethler in Augusta. She survives.
He was a member of the Dewey, Okla., Church of the Nazarene.
Other survivors include a daughter, Leann Cummins of Owasso, Okla.;
grandson, Christopher Cummins, Owasso; father, Clifford Cheek of Pyatt;
three brothers, Harold of Houston, Texas, Conley of Pyatt, Jack of Springdale, Ark.;
three sisters, Jimmy Renolette of Wichita, Donna Crigler and Peggy Colston of Harrison, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his mother, a brother and a sister.
A memorial has been established with the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Elbert ‘Red’ Davis dies Saturday
Davis Liquor store owner Elbert “Red” W. Davis, 75, Augusta, died Saturday, Oct. 20.
Funeral services will be private.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy J.; sons, John of Las Vegas, Nev., Brad of Augusta, Scott of Upland, Calif.,
David Stinley of Wichita, Keith of New York, Fred of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jason D. at home;
daughters, Ruth Reynolds of Torring-ton, Conn., Dorothy Mae Larensen of Winsted, Conn.,
Jessica L. Davis of Augusta; nine grandchildren; one greatgrandchild.
A memorial has been established with the Sedgwick County Humane Society.
Lakeview Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Don Blair McCann services Tuesday
Retired Lt. Col. Don Blair McCann, 47, Manhattan, died Saturday, Oct. 20, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center,
Topeka.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Edwards-Yorgensen-Meloan Funeral Home, Manhattan,
the Rev. David J. Pape officiating.
Burial will be in the Fort Riley Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
McCann was born Dec. 3, 1942, in El Dorado. He had been a Manhattan resident since 1979.
On Dec. 4, 1965, he married Linda C. Brown in Paoli, Ind. She survives of the home.
He received numerous medals and honors while serving in the military.
