Robert Johnston

Robert Edward Johnson, 70, a retired United States Air Force senior master sergeant,
who was a Pearl Harbor survivor, died Sunday, June 2, 1991.
He is the father os Susan Pangrac of Augusta.
Survivors include his wife Pauline; daughters, Pangrac and Darlene Welty of Wichita;
a brother, Phil of Orlando, Fla., sister, Wilda Pickard of Royal Oak, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Byrd-Snodgrass Funnerall Home in Wichita.
A memorial has been estabished with the St. Joseph’s Adult Day Healthcare Center in Wichita.
He was bom Nov. 17, 1920. He resided in Wichita.

Sylvia Stearns

Sylvia M. Steams, 89, Douglass, died Wednesday, June 5.
Her funeral service will be 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, June 7, at the Douglass Christian Church.
Interment will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
She was born on Feb. 16,1902 in Gordon as a daughter of Charles and Elva Dugan.
She married Leonard Cronk in 1920 at Douglass. He preceded her in death in 1961.
She married Fred Steames in 1972 at Douglass. He survives.
She was a member of the Douglass Christian Church, the Douglass Library Board,
Order of the Eastern Star and P.E.O.

Robert Johnston

Robert Edward Johnston, 70, a retired U.S. Air Force senior master sergeant and
a Pearl Harbor survivor, died Sunday, June 2, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
He is the father of Susan Pangrac, Augusta.
His funeral service was today, June 5, at the Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home in Wichita.
Burial was in the Dunlap Cemetery at Rose Hill.
Rev. David Johnson, chaplain at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita,, officiated at the military service.
Johnston was born Nov. 17, 1920 as a son of Robert E. Johnston Sr. and
Marian Lister Johnston in Port Huron, Mich.
He entered the Air Force after 12 years of education.
In 1974, he married the former Pauline Craig at the McConnell AFB chapel in Wichita. She survives.
Johnston was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
In additionn to his daughter here and his wife, he leaves daughter Darlene Welty of Wichita,
brother Phil Johnston of Orlando, Ha., sister, Wilda Pickard of Royal Oak, Mich., and four grandchildren.
A memorial has been estab-ished with the St. Joseph s Day Health Center for Adults.
The Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home of Wichita was in charge of arrangements.
Other survivors include a daughter, Shirley Forstman of Nashville, Tenn.;
brother, Lawrence Duggan of Topeka; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the Douglass Christian Church and the Douglass Public Library.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Eva Chalfant

Eva Marie Chalfant, 89, El Dorado, died Wednesday, June 5, at Walnut Valley Manor nursing home here.
There will be a graveside service at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, June 7, at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in ElDorado.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1901, at Knobnoster, Mo. to Allen G. Chalfant and Edith Walters.
She is survived by nieces Janice Sue Riley of Augusta and Mary Haskins of Eldorado;
nephews Robert Chalfant of Wichita and George E. Wynn of Port Arthur, Texas; and
sister-in-laws Elva Chalfant of Augusta and Louise Chalfant of El Dorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Carol Chalfant,
Elmer Chalfant and Cecil Chalfant, and a sister, Alice Wynn.
She was a retired school teacher in the El Dorado school system and was a member of the
First Baptist Church in El Dorado and several organizations for teachers.
A memorial has been established with the El Dorado Public Library.
Carlson Funeral Home of El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.
