Ilene W. Coffee
Ilene W. Coffee, 69, Topeka, died Wednesday, June 12, at the home of her son in Topeka.
She is the mother of Mary Dreher of Augusta.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, at the Parker-Price Mortuary,.245 N.W. Independence, Topeka.
Interment will be in Rochester Cemetery.
Coffee will lie in state after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home
where family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday.
She was born March 23,1922, at Leclede to Fred L. and Hattie (Hensroth) Burgess.
Coffee worked for Lynn Cook Hy Klass Grocery and American Bindery
before owning and operating Coffee’s Retail Liquor Store in Topeka.
She was matron at the Shawnee County Jail where she worked until she retired.
She was married to Charles A. Coffee. They later divorced.
Other survivors include a son, Chuck Coffee of Topeka;
three brothers, Fred L. Burgess of Topeka, Raymond D. Burgess of Omaha, Neb., Bob Burgess of Scranton;
three sisters, Armintha Ditch of Topeka, Oceolia Myers of Topeka, Delores Bemskoetter of Lohman, Mo.;
five granddaughters; five greatgrandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the Kansas State University Cancer Research,
Center for Basic Cancer Research, Ackert Hall, Manhattan, 66506
or Midland Hospice Care, 1272 S.W. Fillmore, Topeka, 66604-1167,
or the American Heart Association, 5375 S.W. Seventh, Topeka, 66606.

Marine Boat Dealership owner and operator Edward Earl “The Boatman” Stephens, 75, Augusta,
died Wednesday, June 12. Funeral services were today at Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home, Wichita.
Survivors include a son, Edward L. of Wichita; brother, Kenny of Chula Vista, Calif.;
sisters, Eva Lanphere of Ballwin, Mo., Belle Walty of Houston, Texas, Ethelyn of Wichita; two grandchildren.
Goldie Olive Loyd, 91, Nowata, Okla., died Friday, June 14, at the Osage Nursing Home in Nowata.
She is a former Augusta resident.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Benjamin Funeral Chapel,
Nowata, 114 W. Cherokee, the Revs. Bill Busch and Arthur Stookey officiating.
Burial wilal be at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 6, 1899, to Minnie E. (Mendel) and William Thomas Willis at Rome, Mo.
On June 6, 1919, she married Joseph Franklin Loyd in Nowata. He preceded her in death in 1969.
She moved to what is now Alluwe, Okla., at the age of two and later moved to the
Childers area where she grew up and attended school.
Following marriage, she and Mr. Loyd lived in several towns.
She moved to Augusta for nine year, returning to the Nowata area in 1969.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Nowata.
Survivors include two sons, Alvin Loyd of Bartlesville, Okla., Earl Loyd of Vinita, Okla.;
three daughters, Gertrude Blose of Sapula, Okla., Wyvon Drake of Galesburg,
Edna Hatcher of Nowata;
21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Guy Willis of Nowata.
Bernie L. Long
Bernie L. Long, 82, Whitewater, father of Lydele Famer of Augusta, died Saturday, June 15
at the Wheatstate Manor nursing home in Whitewater.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the
Federated Church in Whitewater the Rev. Dick Weaver officiating.
Burial will be in the Whitewater Cemetery.
Mr Long was a retired Standard Oil of Kansas bulk agent.
He was born Feb. 20, 1909 in Whitewater as a son of George Sherman Long and Lydia Mary Eilert.
On Aug. 25, 1934, he married the former Helen Irene Sharits in a ceremony at Newton.
She preceded him in death in April of
He was a member of the Federate Church of Whitewater.
Long was a retired city marshall and church custodian.
He also leaves a son, Carl Long of Hillsboro,
10 grand children, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the Wheatstate Manor nursing home are suggested.
The Lamb-Nutter Mortuary of Whitewater is in charge of arrangements.
