J. Stuart Markey

J. Stuart Markey, 42, Augusta, Ritchie Corp. sales manager, died Tuesday, July 9.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary, Wichita.
Markey was born Oct. 20, 1948, in Wichita.
On March 6,1976, he married Heidi Johnson. She survives.
They lived in Emporia for 12 years, and Mr. Markey. was general manager at Penny’s Concrete in Emporia.
He was on the executive board of the Emporia Chamber of Commerce and
was a chamber ambassador. He was also a member of the Rotary Club in Emporia.
He graduated from the University of Kansas and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta.
Other survivors include a son, Derek Stuart of New London, Conn.;
parents, John B. & Sherley Markey of Lake Ozark, Mo.;
brothers, Victor A. Markey of Lake Ozark, Douglas B. Markey of San Diego, Calif.;
grandmother, Gertrude G. Swengel of Wichita.
A memorial has been established with the George Brett A.L.S. Research Foundation, 8340 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kan. 66206.
Downing & Lahey Mortuary, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.

Dan Helmer

Retired farmer Dan Helmer, 81, rural Augusta, died Wednesday, July 10, at the Medicalodge of Douglass.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Elmwood Cemetery, the Rev. W.M. Childress officiating.
Helmer was born Oct. 6, 1909, in Durham to Susanne & Martin Helmer.
On April 26,1936, he married Lillian Mahlandt in Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Dan E. of Augusta;
daughters, Sharon Stephens of Emporia, Shirley Helmer of Kansas City, Mo.;
brothers, Harry of Hillsboro, Ed of Bums;
sisters, Mary Daniels of El Dorado, Edith Rempel of Hillsboro, Martha Yauk of Hillsboro;
four grandchildren, Dan D. & Dana Helmer of Augusta, James & Rachel Stephens of Emporia.
Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the Christ Lutheran Church.

Eleanor Fiedler

Eleanor Fiedler, 58, Chase, died Friday, July 12. She was the sister of Jerome Demel of Augusta.
Herfuneral was today, July 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Chase.
She was a homemaker and retired Chase school system cook.
Other survivors include her husband, Dennis; sons, Richard of Salina, Gerald of Gainesville, Texas;
daughters, Donna, Roberta, both of Hutchinson, Susan Mazouch, Karen Barnard, both of Great Bend,
Rosemary of Las Vegas, Nev., Eileen of Dodge City;
brothers, Ed Demel of Hoisington, Stephen Demel, Clarence Demel, August Demel, all of Claflin;
sisters, Mary Gerrit-zen of Hoisington, Margaret Nuschafer of Enterprise, Irene Mattas of Wilson,
Matilda Schneider, Viola Axman, both of Olmitz; nine grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Rice and Reno County Hospice.

Daniel Johnston

Daniel Arthur Johnston, 31, Wichita, died Satuday, July 13, at HCA Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
He is the son of Sonny & Madeline Johnston of Augusta.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight at Dunsford Funeral Chapel.
The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, with Father James Billinger officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, rural Augusta.
Johnston was born Aug. 5, 1959, in El Dorado to Madeline Seibel and Sonny Johnston.
Other survivors include brothers, Michael, Gary, Ronald, all of Wichita, Donald of Olathe, Paul of Bartlesville, Okla.;
sisters, Wendy Ann Scott of Edmond, Okla., Mary McElroy of Goddard.
A memorial has been established with St. James Catholic Church.
