Mabel Howard

Mabel Howard, 94, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Arkansas City Memorial Hospital.
She was the mother of Lyn-den Howard, a former Augusta resident.
Funeral services were Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
Survivors include five sons, Calvin Howard of Irving, Texas, Clifton Howard of Wichita,
Donald Howard of Tulsa, Okla., Lyle Howard of Houston, Texas, Lynden Howard of Arkansas City;
26 grandchildren; 51 greatgrandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred Pickett

Mildred Juanita Pickett, 75, Charleston, S.C., died Nov. 15. S
he was the sister of Augusta residents Mrs. Ruey Powell and Mrs. Beverly Williams.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the First Christian Church, Augusta,
the Rev. Michael Omundson officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Pickett was born Oct. 17, 1916, in Greencastle, Mo., to Nola (Dale) and Claude Davidson Sr.
On Sept. 7, 1940, she married John Paul Pickett. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Pickett was a retired school teacher, a member of the First Christian Church and a
member of the Retired Teachers Association. She graduated from the Northeast Missouri State College in Kirkville, Mo.,
and the Emporia State Teachers College. After this, she taught in Benton and Missouri and
was a substitute teacher in Augusta.
Survivors include a son, Claude Martin Pickett of Charleston; a brother, Robert Davidson Jr. of Wichita;
two grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a son, John Duane Pickett; brothers, Larry, Ed, Herb, Claude, Raymond, Richard and Donald.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church of Augusta.
Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Glock

Fred E. Glock, 68, Towanda, died Nov. 15 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wichita.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the First United Methodist Church, Towanda,
the Rev. L. Fred Houston officiating. Burial will be in the Towanda Cemetery.
Glock was born Dec. 21,1922, in Hampden, N.D., to Stella Olive (Tschabold) and Julius August Glock.
On Aug. 26,1948, he married Harriet Larue Hanson in Devils Lake, N.D. She survives.
Glock served in the Navy during World War II.
He and his brother, Elmer, enlisted in the Navy together on Feb. 17, 1942, and were together
through basic training and gunnery school at the Great Lakes Naval Station and on Atlantic convoy duty.
While serving on a destroyer which took part in the invasion of north Africa at Casablanca,
Glock was wounded with shrapnel to the right leg. Also, he was one of three known survivors of a
mine sweeper demolished July 30, 1944, when it struck two mines.
Glock was a retired custodian, Benton public schools.
Survivors include sons Keith of Highlandville, Mo., Dan of Augusta, Bob & Randy, both of Nitro, W.Va.,
Rusty of Lebanon, Mo., Kelly & Rick of Towanda; a daughter, Melody Watson of Benton;
a brother, Edwin H. of Commerce City, Colo.; sisters, Nellie Faye Rupp of Minot, N.D.,
Sally Conners of Commerce City; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Karl Rasmussen

Karl R. Rasmussen, 78, Wichita, died Tuesday, Nov. 19. He was the grandfather of Karla Hart of Augusta.
Funeral services are 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Cochran Mortuary, Wichita.
Rasmussen was a retired Bull Sholes Estates real estate agent.
Survivors include his wife Mayme, of the home; a daughter, Sylvia M. McHam of Wichita; a
stepson, Gene Spear of Wichita; one grandchild; two greatgrandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Reformation Lutheran Church, Wichita.

Byron Freeman

Butler County native Byron Earl Freeman, 68, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He lived near Corpus Christi, Texas. This retired Cessna Aircraft worker was the son of
Ivan and Leona Freeman of Leon. He grew up in the rural area between Augusta and Leon.
Survivors include his wife, Mona; and three brothers, Warren and Edward of Augusta; and Harold of Leon.
There will be no funeral service.
