Local Developer, Lee Hoopes Dies
Lee Elsworth Hoopes, 57, 2919 Lakeshore, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks and Rev. Burl Allison Jr., will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Augusta Medical Complex and the Augusta Library.
He was born March 16, 1925 in Anthony to Henry and Faye Prouse Hoopes. He married Dorothy Jean Safford Aug. 21, 1948 in Augusta. She survives.
He was a sales representative for Belknap Hardware.
He operated Hoopes Real Estate Co., and was an instrumental force in developing land north of Kelly Street.
He graduated from the University of Kansas where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was a B-24 pilot. He was a member of the Augusta United Methodist Church.
Hoopes was former president of the Safford Lumber Co. in Augusta. He was former president of the Augusta Rotary Club, the Augusta Chamber of Commerce and the board of the Augusta County Club.
He was one of the original incorporators of the Augusta Medical Complex.
He was a former president of Thunderbird Development in Boulder, Colo.; owner of Custom Realty in Boulder and a former member of the Boulder Country Club and the Boulder Rotary.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Wichita Consistory and Shrine. He was a member of Mystic Tie Lodge No. 74 and the B.P.O.E.
Other survivors include a son, Chris Hoopes of Longmont, Colo.; two daughters, Leslie Bergin of Denver, Colo., and Nancy Cline of Boulder; a brother, Gene Hoopes of Irving, Texas, and his father, H.H. Hoopes of Irving.

Bill Reetz Rites Monday
William “Bill” H. Reetz, 86, 2111 Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at the Lakeview Mortuary in Wichita.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church of Augusta and the American Heart Fund.
He was born on a farm in the Augusta area May 10, 1896 the son of pioneer German parents, William and Caroline Reetz.
He married Nydene Thomas Jan. 2, 1925. She survives.
He retired from Derby Oil Corporation after 38 years as an oil field gauger. He was a resident of Wichita for 45 years before moving to Augusta three years ago.
He was a member of the American Legion having served in the U.S. Army during World War I.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Minnie Skaer of Augusta and several nieces and nephews.
Daughter Killed In Accident

Virginia Givens, 39, Wichita, daughter of Eleanor Glenn of Douglass, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, from injuries she suffered when struck by vehicle in Wichita.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Lakeview Gardens of Memory.
Rev. Merle Wilson will officiate.
She was born Dec. 18, 1942 in Wichita to Tom and Eleanor Myers.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include sons, Rickey, Jean, Shannon; daughters, Jackie, June, Janet and April Givens, addresses unknown; a brother, Tom Myers of Wichita, and a sister, Christine McLaughlin of Wichita.
