Juanita Thornton
Juanita Lucinda Thornton, 78, Augusta, died Tuesday, July 9, 1996, Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Frank Miller will officiate.
Thornton was born on May 20, 1918 in Augusta to Jay Dexter and Maude Jane (Walker) Thompson.
She owned and operated the Style Shop in Augusta for 43 years and was a member of the First Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Tony; son, Terry F. Thornton of Salina;
grandson, Terrance Thornton of Los Angeles; granddaughter, Rhonda Cruce of Salina, and
great-grandson, Robert Haase of Salina.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
Merle E. Bacon
Merle Eugene Bacon, 72, Augusta, died Sunday, July 7, 1996.
Visitation is tonight until 8 p.m. at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Augusta First Baptist Church,
with Rev. Richard C. Axmann, Clinton, Utah, and longtime friend of Bacon,
bringing a special message. Dr. Robert Box, pastor of First Baptist Church will officiate the service.
Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery.
Bacon was born Oct. 16, 1923, on the Bacon family farm near Leon.
One of seven children, he grew and worked on the farm until graduation from Leon High School in 1940.
He was inducted into the United States Army in October 1944 where he was sent overseas
as a radio operator until he received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Returning from World War II,
he met, courted, and married Juanita Elizabeth Parker. They were married 44 years.
After living several years in Arizona, he returned to the Leon area.
As a self-employed contractor in construction that specialized in concrete work. He retired and with the help of his wife, became the custodian of the Augusta First Baptist Church in 1983, where he and his family were members.
He was a member of the Baptist Brothers, the men’s prayer group, a deacon, and
then becoming the chairman of the board of deacons, serving on a

Former Augusta resident Hazel Lenore Hall, 87, Casper Wyo., died Tuesday, July 9, 1996 at Life Care Center in Casper.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, at the Bustard Funeral Home in Casper.
There will be a graveside service for her at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, at Elmwood Cemetery.
Hall was born in Butler County on Dec. 2, 1908, the daughter of Harvey T. and Pearl (Whitecotton) Hyde.
She graduated from Augusta High School and Ottawa University,
then taught school in rural Kansas until her marriage to Ivan Kirk Hall in 1941 in Denver.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Casper and enjoyed genealogy and politics.
She had been an active member of the Natrona County Republican Party.
Hall was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Arnold Pietala,
brother, Dr. Marshall E. Hyde and by her sister-in-law, Mamie Hall West.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Susan and Ralph Jennings of Gering, Neb.,
and Mary Lynn and Dwight Parrill of Casper; seven grandchildren; her brother, John T. Hyde of Augusta,
sister-in-law Margaret Hyde of Wichita; three nephews and one niece.
A memorial has been established with the Natrona County Senior Citizen Center.
The Bustard Funeral Home, Casper, is in charge of Wyoming arrangements,
while Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge of local arrangements.
