Maxine Rollins
Maxine Rollins, 78, Augusta, died Wednesday, July 10, 1996.
Visitation will be tonight until 8 p.m. at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, at the Augusta Church of Christ
with Joe Slater officiating. She will be buried in the Cumberland Cemetery.
Rollins was born Thursday, May 16, 1918 in Butler County to Robert.L. and Ola (Van Dyne) Thomas.
She was a member of the Augusta Church of Christ and belonged to the OES,
Twentieth Century Club, a member of EHU, a 4-H leader, and a Sunday school teacher.
The homemaker was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Verlin Rollins.
She is survived by her son, Thomas of Vidor, Texas;
daughters, Sue Evans of Augusta and Martha Van Arsdale of Oakley, Calif.;
brother, Bert Thomas of Augusta, Delbert Thomas of Trenton, N.J., Earnest Thomas of El Dorado Hills, Calif.;
stepbrother, Clifford Bailey of Popca City, Okla.; step-sister, Merle Lovell of San Carlos, Calif.;
11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the Augusta Church of Christ Building Fund and Alzheimer’s Association.

Frances Opal Shurtz, 87, Augusta, died Friday, Aug. 30, 1996.
Her service will be 10 a.m. tomorrow, Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit.
The homemaker is survived by her son, Noel, of Augusta;
three grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church, Beloit.

Louis Cantu
Louis Cantu, 76, Augusta, died Tuesday, July 16, 1996 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Hillside Funeral Home Augusta.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Cantu was born Jan. 15, 1920 in Laredo, Texas to Pete and Marcia (Garcia) Cantu.
He was retired from Beech Aircraft after 31 years of employment and served in the
U.S. Army during World War II, spending 3 1/3 years in the signal corps.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild.
He is survived by his wife, F. Merle (Baker) Cantu; sons, Dennis or Augusta,
Gary of El Dorado, Ronald of Corpus Christi, Texas, Barry of Wichita, Patrick of Dodge City;
daughters, Cindy Smith of Porum Okla., Mary Hill of Rockaway Beach, Mo.;
sister, Tony Garcia of McAllen, Texas;
20 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Augusta Senior Center.

Ramon L. Clark, 78, Augusta, died Tuesday, July 23, 1996, Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, at the Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Vern Bowers of Augusta First United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Clark was born Nov. 5, 1917 in Cambridge to Ray D. and Elva (Baker) Clark.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the United Methodist Church and had retired as a school custodian.
He is survived by his wife, Fern (Miller); son, Rodney W. Clark of Marietta, Ga.;
brothers, Dr. James E. Clark of Colorado Springs, Colo., Alfred Clark of Coffeyville;
sister, Vera Sheldon of Arkansas City, and two grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Maurine G. Brown, 83, Augusta, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1996, HCA Wesley, Wichita.
There will be a graveside service for her at 10 a.m. Saturday, Fairview Cemetery.
Brown was born on Feb. 9, 1914 in Augusta to Gilbert and Ola (Smith) Johnson.
She owned and operated the Community Inn in Wichita for years.
She is survived by her nephew, Henry Oaks Marsh III of Rose Hill; niece, Valerie Marsh Shaw of Douglass.
Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.

Nina Mae Cutts, 91, Augusta, died Monday, Sept. 2, 1996, Augusta Medical Complex.
A private graveside service will be held tomorrow at Elmwood Cemetery.
