Claire Scott Dies At 85
Claire Scott, 85, rural Douglass, died Saturday, Nov. 13, at Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
His services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Douglass First Christian Church. Rev. Gary Bowie will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church in Douglass.
He was born Aug. 26, 1897 in Douglass to William Arthur and Harriet Edith Snyder Scott.
He married Fern Brooks Oct. 4, 1941 in Nevada, Mo. She survives.
He was a retired Douglass Township employee and a lifetime resident of Douglass.
He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Other survivors include two sisters, Edith Engle and Mary Sutton, both of Douglass and nieces and nephews.
The Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Garver
Melvin Garver, 90, Leon, died Thursday, Nov. 11.
His service was Monday, Nov. 15, at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
A memorial has been established with Faith Chapel in Wichita.
Survivors include his wife, Tillie Garver; a son, Lawrence Garver of Littleton, Colo., and a daughter, Mrs. E.R. Fletcher of Wichita.

Father Dies In Wichita
Charles Robert Ney, 56, Storm Lake, Iowa, father of Nancy Shupe of Augusta, died Monday, Nov. 15, at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.
Services are pending for Nov. 19 at Storm Lake, Iowa. Sliefert Funeral Home there is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Feb. 13, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Albert J. and Frances Harris Ney.
In 1948, he married Ethel Mary Cunningham in Dyersburg, Tenn. She survives.
He was a retired sports announcer and a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors also include another daughter, Laura Ney of Wichita; brothers, Al Ney of DesMoines, Iowa and Jack New of Superior, Wis.; sisters, Mary FLynn of Minneapolis, Iowa and June Proctor of Peoria, Ill., and two grandchildren.

Erwin Penner
Erwin L. Penner, 65, Topeka, brother of Roy Penner of Douglass, died Tuesday, Nov. 9.
His funeral service was Thursday, Nov. 11. A memorial has been established with Friends University.
Other survivors include his wife, Gladys Penner of the home; a son, Bruce Penner of Buffalo, N.Y.; daughters, Carolyn Burtner of Cleveland Ohio and Evelyn Boonyawiroj of Toronto, Canada; other brothers, Oliver Penner and Wesley Penner, both of Wichita and sisters, Linda Unruh of Wichita and Lillian Miller of Valley Center.

Uvah Evans Dead At 69
Uvah Evans, 1201 Money, died Friday, Nov. 19, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Her srvice was at 1:30 p.m. today at the Augusta Church of Christ. Phil McCormick officiated and burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born July 27, 1913 in Clora, Okla., to Daniel and Flora Sanders Renard She married John Wesley Evans July 20, 1939 in Claremore, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, James L. Evans and Eddie Joe Evans, both of Augusta; brothers, Daniel Renard, John Renard and Paul Renard, all of Wichita and Joseph Renard of San Pablo, Calif.; sisters, Golda Brown of Hayward, Calif., Ruth Nigh of Venita, Okla., Mildred Corbin of Wichita and Wanda Johnson of Kemp, Texas, and six grandchildren.
A sister, Dolly Brown, also preceded her in death.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta was in charge of arrangements.
