T.E. ‘Ted’ Dewey
Theodore “Ted” E. Dewey, 83, Augusta, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996 in the Arolyn Heights Health Care facility at Chanute.
Cremation has been held.
A military memorial service is planned at the Yates Center Cemetery at a later date. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1654 of Chanute will handle those arrangements.
He was born Oct. 18, 1912 in Idalia of Yuma County, Colo., as the son of Charles E. Dewey and Ellen G. Moore Dewey.
Dewey graduated from high school at Gridley in 1932.
He was an oil field driller in Illinois and joined the U.S. Army engineers in 1942. He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II.
He and the former Mildred Arentz were married Aug. 22, 1944 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
He was discharged in 1946 as a tech sergeant.
After the war, Mr. Dewey worked as a livestock farmer and oil field driller in Woodson County. He then worked with the Kansas Corporation Commission as an oil well plugging supervisor until his retirement.
Mrs. Dewey died in 1993.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Edith and Hazel) and one brother (Lawrence).
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta was in charge of arrangements.

Leigh Warner
Leigh Warner. 94, died toda1 at Via Christi St. Francis Medica Center in Wichita.
Funeral services were pending this morning at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
Mr. Warner was a retired teacher and school administrator.
Earlier this year, he was recognized as Sunday School Teacher of the Year by the Kansas Leadership and Sunday School Association (KLASS).
He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Washburn University at Topeka. His master’s degree in education was from Colorado State Teachers College at Greeley, Colo., and he earned a qualified specialist honor from Wichita State University.
He taught for 10 years at Tecumseh and 10 years at Kingman before relocating to Augusta where he retired as principal of an elementary school.
Mr. Warner was very active in the Augusta Kiwanis Club, Retired Teachers Association, and Eastern Star.
His hobbies included latch hook rugs and wall hangings. He also loved music and was often called upon to lead singing for various organizations.
He began teaching the Christian Forum Sunday School class at the Augusta Methodist Church when he was 53 years old. He started with six students in October of 1956 and today, that class has more than 55 students.

Leone Hutcheson
Leone T. Hutcheson, 79, West Fork, Ark., wife of Harold Hutcheson, a former editor of the Augusta Gazette, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996 at the Washington Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the West Fork Presbyterian Church and burial will be in the West Fork Cemetery.
She was born June 12, 1917 in Newaygo County, Mich., as the daughter of Edward and Ella Klever.
She leaves her husband; sons, Bill Hughes and John Hughes, both of Naples, Fla.; stepson, Roy G. Smith of West Fork; stepdaughters, Cathy Keck of West Fork and Susanna Hutcheson of Wichita; brother, John Klever of Muskegon, Mich.; sisters, Christine Gilmore of Grant, Mich., and Maxine Verink of Grand Haven, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the West Fork Presbyterian Church Childrens Fund have been suggested.
The Moore’s Chapel funeral home at Fayetteville, Ark., is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude DeLong
Gertrude N. DeLong, 90, died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996.
Cremation has been held. There was no service.
She was a retired bait shop owner-operator.
She was born Feb. 27, 1906 at Guthrie, Okla., as the daughter of William Randle and Martha Howard Randle.
On Aug. 9, 1928, she was united in marriage to Harvey DeLong in Kingfisher, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Mrs. DeLong leaves a brother, George Randle of Augusta.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta was in charge of arrangements.

Fred Berschauer, 95, died Friday, Feb. 6,1998.
A memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Augusta. .
