Edwin G. Leonard
Edwin G. Leonard, 78, of Topeka and formerly of Augusta died Dec. 18, 1996, in Topeka.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Brenman-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th, Topeka. Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at Topeka Presbyterian Manor Chapel, 4712 SW 6th Ave., Sunday, Dec. 22. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Richland.
Mr. Leonard was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Richland to Walter and Arabell Leonard. He married Mary J. Klein Aug. 30, 1941.
He was a retired carpenter with Local Union 201 in Wichita. He was also a member of St. James Catholic Church, beginning in 1957.
Survivors are sons, Darrell Leonard of Hixon, Tenn and Gerald Leonard of Wichita; daughter, Carolyn Nutter of Lowell, Ark.; sisters Idell Dean of Silver Lake and Peral Uhl of Perry; brothers, Keith Leonard of Greeley, Colo, and Dean Leonard of Topeka; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary and a son, Norman.
A memorial fund has been established in his name with St. James School, 30 Cliff Dr., Augusta. KS. 67010.
J. ‘Chet’ Powers
John C. “Chet” Powers, 84, of Joplin, Mo. and formerly of Augusta died Dec. 21, 1996 at Friendship Circle Nursing Home. 5
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Rev John Swadley will officiate Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Powers was born July 27, 1912, in the Tipton Ford community south of Joplin. His family moved to Augusta where he was raised.
He married Margaret Boucher Jan. 29, 1938, in Augusta. The moved to Joplin in 1991 from Midland, Texas.
He was an engineer for 4] years for the pipeline division of Mobile Oil Coip. He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, Joplin, and past president of the American Association of Retired Persons at Midland, Survivors are wife, Margaret Powers of Joplin; daughter, Elaine Davis of Thornton, Colo.; sisters, Wilma Perry of Joplin
and Nell Lytton of Beaumont, Texas; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A memorial has been established with Forest Park Baptist Church. Contributions may be sent to the funeral home, 3701 E. Seventh St. Joplin, MO. 64801.
Doris Turner
Doris Carr Turner, 76, of El Dorado and formerly of Augusta died Dec. 13, 1996, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Trinity Episcopal Church, l^yjial will follow in Sunset "Lawns Cemetery.
Doris Carr was born May 3, 1920, in Augusta to Lisle and Vera (Grant) Carr.
She married Lewis Turner Nov. 14, 1941, in Bisbee, Ariz.
She was a homemaker and worked at Boeing Aircraft during World War II.
She lived in El Dorado after moving from Junction City in 1986.
Survivors are husband, Lewis “Slick” Turner of the home; sons, Mike Turner of Tucson, Ariz., Doug Turner of Houston, Texas and Brad Turner of Kansas City; daughter, Suzanne Nichols of Marietta, Ga. and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Tommy Turner and two sisters, Jane and Dorothy.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer’s Association. Contributions may be sent to Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado, which has the arrangements.
