Juanita McKay
Juanita “Maxine” McKay, 75, of Augusta, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta. Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 7, at Dunsford Chapel. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Juanita Jenkins was born May 23, 1922, in Coldwater to Ivy Allen and Alice Marie (Dubois) Jenkins.
She married LaVerne F. McKay May 16, 1942, in
Wichita.
The McKays moved to Augusta in 1961 from Derby. She was a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Survivors are husband, LaVerne McKay of Augusta;
sons, Rick L. McKay of Kansas City and Tim A. McKay of Winfield; daughters, B. Charlita Moreland of Augusta and Pennie J. McKay of Boise, Idaho; sisters, Mildred Buckles of Kiowa and Novella Thompson of Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Jenkins, and sisters, Helen Jenkins and Shirley
Stout.

Tony L. Thornton
Tony L. Thornton, 82, of Augusta died Monday, July 28, 1997, at Via Christi-St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, and Friday, Aug. 1, at Dunsford Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Dunsford Chapel with Frank Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Tony Thornton was born May 21, 1915, in Madison to Harry G. and Bertha (Logsdon) Thornton.
He married Juanita L. Thompson. She preceded him in death July 1996.
He served in the U. S. Navy and was a boiler operator at Mobil Oil Refinery before his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and First Christian Church.
Survivors are son, Terry Thornton of Salina; brothers, Humphrey Thornton and Harold Thornton both of Augusta; grandchildren, Rhonda Cruce of Salina and Terrance Thornton of Los Angeles, Calif., and great-grandson, Robert Haase of Salina.
A memorial has been established with First Christian Church of Augusta.

Anthony D. Stratton, 39, of rural Augusta, died Thursday, July 31, 1997, as the result of an automobile accident.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Hillside Funeral Home East in Wichita.
He was a avionics senior technician for Cessna Aircraft.
Survivors are companion, Sheri L. Morgan of rural Augusta; daughter, Erin Stratton of Wichita; son, Alex Stratton of Wichita; mother, Norine L. Stratton of Wichita; brothers, Dennis Riley of Wichita, Patrick Riley of Chicago, 111., and Michael Phillips of Anaheim, Calif.; sister and Sue Tanner of Wichita.

Carrie L. Speights, 72, of Augusta, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at Kansas City Research Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Hillside Funeral Home Augusta Chapel. Rev. William Jeffress will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Carrie Brown was born March 8, 1925, in Jamesport, Mo., to Walter and Lula (Baker) Brown. She married Earl Speights May 28, 1955, in Newton.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors are husband, Earl Speights of Augusta; son, Wayne Arthaud of Augusta; daughter, Lonna Echols of Augusta; brothers, Virgil Brown of Jamesport, Mo., and Ferris Brown of Trenton, Mo.; sister, Mary Hudson of Laclede, Mo.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas, Inc. Contributions may be sent to Hillside Funeral Home of Augusta.
