Cecil L. Rickords

Cecil L. “Rick” Rickords, 73, of Wichita, father of Pat Houchin of Augusta, died Friday, Aug. 15,1997.
His funeral service was held today at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. Rev. Vern Bowers of Augusta First Methodist Church officiated.
He was an experimental mechanic at Boeing. After retirement, he enjoyed rebuilding tractors and gardening.
Survivors are son, Mike Rickords of Wichita; daughter, Pat Houchin of Augusta; brothers, Lindel Rickords and Claude Rickords of Arkansas City; sister, Doris Hall of Arkansas City; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial have been established with Augusta United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 237, Augusta, and Dawson United Methodist Church, 2711 Laura, Wichita, KS. 67216.

Zella Cowardin

Zella Cowardin, 88, of Arkansas City and formerly of Augusta, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at Medicalodge North in Arkansas City.
Her funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Zella Mannion was born Sept. 27, 1908, in Augusta to James Christopher and Adda (Coday) Mannion. She lived in Augusta prior to moving to Arkansas City with her family when she was 16 years old. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1927.
She married Harley Orson Cowardin Nov. 11, 1928, in Ponca City, Okla. They lived in Arkansas City where They owned and operated Supreme food Store, later Harley’s Supreme Food Market, from 1934 until their retirement in 1974.
She was a member of the Central Christian Church and U and I Sunday school class.
Survivors are daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Fred Rindt of Arkansas City; grandchildren, Jeff Rindt of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kelly McGuigan of Arkansas City and five greatgrandchildren, Lindsay, Aaron and David Rindt all of Phoenix, Ariz. and Ryan and Lauren McGuigan both of Arkansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harley, brothers, James V. Mannion and William C. Mannion, and sister, Virginia McLaughlin.
A memorial has been established with Central Christian Church.
